Default Bad ballast or bad bulb?? Oem hid with pic

So today I noticed my passenger side bulb is purple so something is dumping the bed but which one causes the discoloration?

I am thinking ballast but would like some other opinions

Thanks

I assume the bulbs are oem so almost 10 years old. If it's the bulb I think I have a spare from my evo if it's a d2r like most?

I'm embarrassed to say that mine are original to from 1999.. I'm sure they are not at 100% lumen potential.. I would probably start with bulbs.. I'm running a $35 pair of 6000K HID bulbs in my Optima with no issues for about a year now..

Yea good point I may as well just order a set of cheap bulbs from e-bay and just try that.
Worst case I have some spare bulbs

Is oem 6k or 5k?

OEM is 4300K but from other sources 5000k is the best of both worlds. A hint of blue with great lumens. I have 6000k in the Optima but 6k is more blue but less lumens (light output)..

So i would go 5k or 6k... And if the bulbs last thats great.. The next step would be the morimotos from Retro Fit Source... A great bulb or XenonDepot our forum Vendor..

Do some research. The online marketplace is flooded with fake Philips bulbs.

Personally, I purchased mine off Amazon about 1.5 years ago and they have been fine and I believe them to be authentic. These are the OEM spec replacements:

Amazon.com: Philips D2R Xenon HID Headlight Bulb, Pack of 1: Automotive Amazon.com: Philips D2R Xenon HID Headlight Bulb, Pack of 1: Automotive
- BE SURE TO BUY THE ONES ACTUALLY SOLD BY AMAZON AND NOT SELLER "XENON CORP" to have the best luck on not getting fakes.

Be sure to replace them in pairs. The color of the bulb changes over time, so there will be an obvious mismatch in color if you just change one.

Oh, and they are kind a a pain to replace. See this thread:

I had the same purple headlight issue on my car. I replaced both sides with Litech 6000k D2C bulbs and the problem was solved.
