Need some help from ML audio guru's.

I own a 2003 GS430 with factory ML & Nav. Stereo is stock.

Problem:
- when I turn up the volume on the factory head unit, the sounds "turns off" but the head unit stays on - I'm only losing my audio at that desired sound level. When I turn down the volume button, the audio does come back on, but it only plays at low audio level. I am not getting the volume up much when this happens. So, it happens at lower audio levels.

Also, this happens regardless if the car is running or is in the garage parked. It's not an overheating issue on the amp - I have checked.

I have also checked all the speakers - none are bad (surprisingly). No cracks or blown voice coils.

Luckily, I have a factory spare ML amp (for the GS430) that is 100% normal, and when I plugged it in, the same symptoms occur. Ok, now I'm really confused.

If it's not a bad speaker, or a bad amp -then what is causing the volume to go out when you try turn it up?

It sounds like the switch on the radio is bad. If this is the case, it is possible to replace it, but finding the proper switch and removing the old one would be challenging.

I have a similar issue with my ML audio switch. It's finicky and sometimes volume turns down when I try to turn it up and vice versa. Other times it won't do anything. For mine it's definitely just the switch because I can pull on it a little bit and get it to work properly.
