Default Eshift

Ive searched the forums and unless Im using the wrong triggers, Ive found nil to answer my question. I have a 98gs300 (late prod date so maybe 99..) and it does not have eshift. What Im wondering, does the car have the capability of it with a steering wheel swap or are there other components that are not included. Reason I ask is I noticed under my console by the vsc/ect switches, there's harness plugs for heated seats. When I had my seats redone, the guy said the heating elements were there so in theory, I could upgrade the console to include the switches. Would the eshift be the same? Please dont flame, ive searched but cannot find a direct answer to this question.

E-Shift was not offered on the GS300 until 2000 (I think) so unlike the heated seats which may be easy to retrofit in I doubt you could plug-&-play the E-shift.

yeah if its not a direct swap on the steering wheel then I wouldnt even think about it. My wheel has some wear and tear and the eshift wheels are far more common in wood from what Im seeing. Maybe im missing something. I'd even settle for a mint leather wrapped wheel. Hate this stupid cover...

I use "M" 90% of the time. I'm almost never in D. But with the turbo I kinda like to be in control of when it shifts.

Before the turbo I think I used "M" mode about 50% of the time.

All that simply to say don't write off e-Shift if you think it's something you'd make good use of. Though, this is not at all helpful in actually getting it to work on your car. I wish you luck in that.

I hate to burst your bubble, but that's quite the contrary. The wood/e-shift was only offered in 2003, on a select few GS's.

Also, adding e-shift to a non e-shift car is much more involved than simply swapping wheels.

You can get them from UpGarage or JZS International from Japan.

Took the words right out of my mouth. It's very hard to find this rare wheel, and they are ALL black. THIS GUY beat me to the punch for the wood wheel he installed in his car recently lol.

Goku- Yup!... my buddy has one in his ('03) Sport Design GS300... BLACK INTERIOR though. They ONLY model that would have them is the Sport Design ('02/'03)- but like ThomasGS4 said... only the 2003 Sport Design's were offered with the (RARE) and prob optional WOOD/E-SHIFT steering wheel.

Necro.

To add eShift, you would need a new shift gate, ECU, steering wheel and column harness?

Steering wheel is actually the one part you don't really need. People have used paddles from an IS, fixed to the GS wheel, or Works Bell paddles. Wired the same as the buttons on the e-shift steering wheels.
