Had to redo the frame of the fiberglass because initially i was thinking of doing a slide in version but with the back cut to access the oem radio and because the iPad 1 back isn't flat so it would be hard to make a perfect slide unit.

Off topic, but what bulbs did you get for your footwells? I got some from Vleds, but they didn't fit.

Should have done the iPad mini. With the smaller size it will fit better. Yet i am sure you already had that iPad. So just disregard that comment. LOL. I have been thinking of doing the Nexus 7 since my boy showed it to me and put it in his SC. He recessed his double din radio and put a hollow pan in front so it is still flush but he still has a normal radio behind he can access. I dont think we have space to do that in out GS tho.

You can use this product if you havent figured out how to get the BT signal to the amps. Or if your using a digital processer like the Bit 10, or the JBL MS8 you can use the optical audio out. DIGITAL AUDIO FTW!!!

But you work looks awesome! I give you 3 thumbs up just for attempting it!

thanks fellas, will update as much as i can, only time i work on it is in the wee hours of the night when the kids are sleeping. now i know why shops charges 800+ to do one of these but in the end there is no better satisfaction than doing it yourself.

it not a bulb, i bought a led strip off ebay and just wired it up to the socket that was there

thank you for the

i had the ipad mini in mind and test fitted it but still had to remove the ashtray console to fit that and the climate control unless the controls are relocated.

the reason why i did it this way so it's cost efficient at the moment so i don't have to rewire anything at all but just to connect one of these

to my already installed VAIS SoundLinQ3 SL3i unit in the back and bam. Plus my OEM stereo is the Navigation unit, the ***** stick out like over half an inch and no way of recessing it back.

Man, you are inspiring. I first saw this concept in the Tesla and always thought to myself..."self, why not do this in other cars like, oh, I don't know, say...our 2GS!" That awesome brother, keep up the hard work.

I agree, I checked out SoundmanCA and yes, although he has pre-fabricated setups that you can order, there's nothing like the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Not to mention it cost $1200 to have them do this!

So have you figured out how you're going to run this (other than the cables you show pictured) I mean functionally how you're going to get this to run through the amp, speakers, etc?

That is all I need to produce the sound from the iPad to the speakers, my amp and box is connected already via LLC. Im just going to run that wire to my Vaistech unit in the back.

I approached this project thinking what is the CHEAPEST way to modify an iPad into the car and this is the way I can think of, hence the mold is sticking out that far to maintain control of my Navi unit when I remove the iPad. Once I get this done, I will try other projects using the ipad mini to make it flush but that requires rewiring the speaker wires which im not familiar with yet, Im probably going to the shop for that.

Hopefully this project helps other members whoever thought of putting a iPad in their cars. Maybe they can even make it better
