So I'm in the MidAtlantic and I didn't drive my GS for almost 2wks waiting for the snow to go away. First day back out on the road this week, it's night time, I round a curve, and drive into the Grand Canyon of potholes with my front right wheel. I tried to avoid it (probably a mistake) and hit it moving from right to left. Hear a loud metallic "bing", and the hole car shudders. Get home, find the tire still holds air. Pretty much brand new Pilot A/S.
Do I need to check for:
a) a bent rim
b) misalignment
c) damaged suspension (stock)
d) all of the above
Instead, should I drive around as long as I don't feel something wrong?
So far, I've driven down flat straight roads and weaved side to side like a drunk driver to test it out. Every now and then, I can feel a wobble in the steering wheel when I end a left weave, and cross over to a right weave.
Thanks for any advice.
Your riding on stock wheels? Check the INNER part of the wheel for any bend or bubble forming along the tire. You shouldn't continue to drive your car and WAIT for something to seriously go wrong. Remember, we drive a lexus not a ford focus .
If you feel alittle wobble then you might have bent the rim... Jack up the front wheel that you might have damaged and spin the wheel.. Look at it from every angle while it's spinning.. That's what I do when I think I did something bad.... That method worked for me for all 17 bends and bubbles.... Nah, not that many.....
it was a bent rim. bent on 2 axes in fact -- sorta like a pringle. got it straightened and rebalanced. smooth riding once again. probably will have my alignment rechecked anyway.
