Default 235/35/19 Tires

I just copied and pasted it from the wheels and tires thread as i was not getting any response. I dont think many people get on that part of the forum so I figured I would post in the GS section.

I have a 99 GS300 with 225/35/19 tires up front. I was wondering if I can go 235/35/19? I see most guys here on the forum go with 225 on 19" wheel. I dont like the stretch tire look and it just looks unsafe IMO. Why do most GS guys go 225 instead of 235?

Current set up:
19x8.5 offset 35. ADR wheels - Similar to SSR GT3 wheels
225/35/19 tires on Stock suspsension.

I actually have the same question. And I don't mean to thread jack but can anyone clarify what it means when a tire says 81W vs 91W?

What makes you think a 235-35-19 wouldn't work on your 19x8.5?

An 8.5" rim will measure between 9.25-9.5" from lip to lip (some manufacturers have 0.5" lips while others have 0.375" lips)

A 235mm tire measures 9.25"

A 235-245mm tire is optimal for an 8.5" rim. You can't get anymore square/safe.

You'll be fine.

81W and 91W are speed ratings. Tells you how fast you can go with those tires. It really matters on the letter tho not the number.

Thanks for catching the error, lol.

But ya, a 235mm tire will be perfect on your 8.5" wide rim.

Ahh thats good. It currently looks stretched on the front wheel and I feel I may damage the lip of the wheels when I turn. There's already some curb rash on the wheel already but I'm getting those refinished then put the 235s on.

Also if there is any DFW guys on here that need a place to go get their wheels redone, just PM me.

81W and 91W is the load index and speed rating.

81/91 = load index.

81 = 1019 lbs
91 = 1356 lbs

W = Speed rating
W = 165 mph MAX. anything over can/will/might heat up the sidewalls too much and BOOM.

19x8.5 offset 35

^ same specs as my wheels before the spacers.

I started with 245/35/19s. Dunlops are a slight stretch in that size.

Now I'm ruining 255/35/19 dunlops again. Side walls are squared off with the wheel and they look great.
