I do not think I am experiencing the normal power steering failure that most do so going to get some advice after searching. I noticed some noise from the front end of my car that made me think my coilovers were failing due to noise. Soon after, my steering became labored, but I did not have the normal power steering pump noise or leak. Then after getting the car up on stands, I dscovered the noise was coming from the steering rack itself at the boots on each side. What is strange is the noise is almost like the rack is rusted metal on metal. I checked the boots and no rips with plenty of grease inside. The noise also alternates from left side one day to the right the next 1-3 days and then back to the other side??? Never both sides together. My steering is better and easier in the morning with the noise and steering becoming harder as the day goes on. Is this my steering pump not pushing enough fluid or something else. Changed fluid with no improvement, but levels have never been down because there is no leak.
Steering is definitely much easier of a morning with no noise at all. However, after 20 minutes it starts squeaking (not a squeel) and steering seems like it is almost sticky or hard to turn wheel back and forth.
