My car has stock halogens and I have a set of ebay halo projectors sitting around, so decided to compare beam patterns. Stock halogen is on the left and ebay projector is on the right (not installed). Car is sitting about 5 feet from garage door.

Ebay projector seems to have a wider/brighter beam pattern than the stock halogen and they do have a more defined cutoff with less light scattering. Putting HID bulb in projector doesn't appear to cause additional scattering. HID bulb in stock halogen causes noticeable pattern glare.

I'm still not sold on the ebay projectors and will modify them if I do install them, but they do seem to be superior to the stock halogens. Would be interesting to see how they compare to the stock HIDs. The ebay projector pattern obviously isn't as good as a higher quality projector that many use in retro-fits. Thought this might be a helpful comparison for those that are running stock halogens.

 

Theres glare in the stock one because of the pattern of the bowl, you need HID bowls to create a proper pattern with a cutoff. Ebay projectors are made for halogen not hid's.

 

With all thoughts and opinions for drop in hids or the ebay projectors aside it's good to see the time taken to post some comparison shots for the forum to document, you should do the same comparisons at 30-50ft from a big white building/wall.

At 50ft that dead spot in the ebay projector will be the size of a u-haul truck.
