thats the way i did it. i turn the engine two full times and everything lined up, i ckannked the engine and it sound weird, then i realized i forgot to plug the map sensor i believe. unplug battery, prug sensor, crank engine and sound better but the valves ticking kind of hard. tunr off engine checked timming againg and its perfect. i been running the car like that since a i changed the timing belt and runs perfect. i tough if u bent the valves the car will sound rough, weird or dont run at all am i wrong?? if i keep running the car like that will it ruin the engine??

Your original post has us under the impression that you ran the car with the timing off.

Now you say that is not the case, which is good. If you haven't started the car with the timing off, then you should not have a problem with bent valves. Your ticking may be something unrelated, like an improperly installed part from the disassembly, or a loose/missing bolt.

Without any of us standing in front of it, there's no way for us to know exactly what is wrong. Take it to a tech and explain everything that happened up to that point and he should be able to set you straight.

Good luck and keep us posted.

He's not getting flamed. He's getting schooled. Too many novices out there underestimate timing belt replacement and they end up learning the hard way. Had he done his research and asked the proper people, he would've done the job flawlessly. Timing belt replacement on our cars whether the six or the eight is actually easy but you must follow the instructions specifically to detail. Some of us, like the OP here, chooses to ignore, details.

Lesson learned OP. Do more extensive research next time. This aint no Ford you're driving.

So ford does not have valves? Oh I remember they have a chain that does not need replacing.

When you did the timing belt change did you preload the tensioner spring?
