Default Rear Ended Someone

Update

I just got the car back today. It looks good. The brand new headlights I got for the car a have a couple of scratches. The body shop claims that they must have been shipped with the scratches. If that is so they should have had them returned. Here are pics...

I was merging on the high way and the car in front of me came to a complete stop and I stopped behind them. The car in front of me lunged forward a bit so I though she had taken off to merge. I was looking out my mirror and saw a gap so I started to accelerate. Unfortunately it turns out the car in front of me had not actually merged yet, she had only pulled forward another five feet and I rear ended her car.

I'll post pics later. I'm going to need a new hood, passenger side fender, bumper components, and a passenger side headlight.

I just polished those head lights 2 weeks ago

I hate that people stop at the end of a merge lane......just the most stupid thing I have ever seen.

Haha, the accident was definitely my fault. We were dead stopped and I saw her pull forward so I thought she was gone and I started to look at my mirror so that I could find a gap to merge into. When I found a gap, probably 10 seconds later, I started to accelerate. I had to accelerate a bit hard because the cars that come around the bend that you have to merge with are coming in around 50-60 mph. I looked forward as I started to take off and she was still there. I hit my brakes but it was too late. I was pretty confused at first but I guess she just lunged forward and then changed her mind about merging and sat there.

I acknowledge your integrity to still tell the truth and state that it was completely your fault.. Most people would like the internet to side with him or herself. lol

Lol, yeah. If you rear end some one it is pretty much always your own fault. I don't appreciate how she kept hesitating to merge and lunging forward and then stopping, but I should have made sure the coast was clear before I took off.

The one thing that does suck is that she didn't trust that my insurance was valid and called the police. Since the police were involved I will get points taken off my license and I have to pay a $120 ticket on top of my $250 deductible from the insurance company.

Still, $370 to pay for what is bound to be a couple thousand dollars worth of damage is not so bad.

My daughter did the exact same thing except she was in my 4runner and not her GS300. The stupid assed lady doctor she hit stopped with no cars in front of her. She was in a week old LS460. I got the 4runner fixed cheap and the LS was around $800.

Exact same thing happened to me and the exact same damage! i was stopped in turning lane saw the car in front of me go i looked left to see if any cars were coming (none were) while slowly moving up and the car in front of me decided they needed to stay in the turning lane. 5mph, no injuries and still tried to sue me.

GL man!

I am taking my car to get some estimates today. The price isn't a problem, but timing is. Insurance only covers a rental car for 25 days so the car needs to get in and out. Last time I had damage I took my car to a place called Achbach and they did amazing work, however they are backed up and take a bit more time to work on cars.

I think I will end up taking my car to a place called Germain Collision. Germain owns a number of dealerships in Columbus including a Lexus dealership and that is where they send all of their cars to be repaired. If anyone else has any ideas on a shop, let me know. I'm hoping I can get my car back by June 21st because that is when I turn 21.
