Question Rhino ramps

Got a word of warning for anyone considering Rhino Ramps if you’ve got a lowered GS.

When getting ready to install my tranny cooler, I couldn’t find my jack stands (son probably has them) – so I decided to buy a pair of Rhino Ramps instead of another set of stands. Thirty bucks at Wal-Mart later I tried them out this past weekend.

Every time I tried to drive up onto them – they moved (I was by myself so I couldn’t SEE what was happening right away). Turns out that the lower part of the bumper was actually hitting the upper part of the unit before the tire contacted the ramp and was just shoving them forward, never letting the tire roll up the ramp.

This is due to the lowered car and (mostly) the 35 series tires. So, I’m back to jack stands – just wanted to save some of you from wasting time with the Rhinos if you’ve got (very) low profile tires. They really are a good product – shame I can’t use them

if you want to use them, you need to get 2 long flat pieces of wood, put the wood in front of the rams, so your low rider can drive on the wood and on to the ram

Don't know if they will work with a lowered car but the best I have found is the Griot ramps with the extenders. They have a set of metal ramps with a kit of plastic pieces that extend the ramp and allow a low vehicle to get up the ramp. Only thing that worked on the MR2 and no problem on the GS but mine isn't lowered.

No deal on these...tried em the other day. Moved all over the place. Will only work with 1" drop or less and no lip. I am going to coils and TTE lip. Looks like jack and move ramp underneath is going to be it.

Hey garnet92,

I've got almost the same set-up as you (eg. L-Tuned Springs/Shocks w/ 18" wheels. I have/use Rhino Ramps and encountered the same problem. It can be resolved a number of ways.

1. Place the ramps on rubber backed carpets (the ones you can buy at Costco or Home Depot). They do a good job preventing the ramp from sliding.
2. Use lengths (approx. 3 to 4 feet) of 2X4's or 2X3's resting against the back end of the ramp and against a fixed object to prevent the ramps from sliding.
3. Make up a 'pre-ramp' so the the initial load on the Rhino Ramp isn't on the front edge.

Hope this bit of info helps.

Yeah I had the same problem and I'm not lowed at all but I have 20s. I also tried with the factory 17s and same problem!!! The best way to fix it is like they said put some rubber mats under them
