Default Burning rubber smell?

What could it be?
It doesnt seem like the pullys have seized up. And I dont get a screech when starting the car. the smell got pretty strong today.

what do you guys think? Its kind of frightening because you dont know what could be going on or if a belt is about to pop.

Maybe the odor is not rubber but plastic. Ran over a plastic shopping bag a while back and it attached itself to the hot exhaust. It smelled for weeks.

Cant be the tires because sometimes I smell it while the car is warning up.

Took it to the mechanic today he couldnt find anything burning under the car. He looked at the tensioners and all were moving freely. He checked the belt and didnt see anything wrong there.

I dont know what else to look for now.

But like I said in the previous post, we both saw nothing stuck or melted onto the cats or anything.

I was on the highway yesterday and the smell became intense. Definitely a rubber smell. It was strong to the point that in the car got a little hazy inside

I have noticed a faint burning rubber/smokey smell coming from the rear end after I get out and walk around the back of it in the garage. I dont recal it always being there. I assume it is the exhaust, but not sure. What are the signs of a catalyct converter going bad...other than a check engine light?

plastic bag stuck on the Cat happened to me once. Could barely tell by just looking under the car. But it was strong smell in the car and had me freakin out. Of course, smell got stronger as car ran longer

E brake engaged and your dash light is off?
Stuck brake caliper?
Serpentine belt slipping on the pulleys?

I know this is old but you seem to have the same problem ive been having.

When my car is warming up in the morning and have the heat on and the vent open theres a strong smell of burning rubber or plastic. When i'm driving it tends to disappear but when stopped i can sometimes smell it coming through. When the vent is closed I don't smell anything. I notice this smell when on i have the hvac on AUTO
