TIP:

You can save your self about $100 if you buy the parts seperatly.

(Lens, Wire loom, and new bulbs) is cheaper than (Tailight Assembly)

I have a 98 400...did the tail swap...complete plug-n-play. the "light out" dash light comes on obviously when you unplug the old tails, should go off after you plug the new tails in..if not, try shutting the car off and starting again...Use a socket wrench when taking those screws out, a screwdriver would strip them...

Thanks for the additional corroboration FC.

Also worth mentioning, I'd take off one of the battery cables when doing this as well, just to be safe. Hey, who wants to pass up on an opportunity to resert their ECU?

Alexus,

I'm assuming you ran into those problems because you bought them used? Didn't run into either of those problems when Dex & I replaced mine. New lights come with all the bulbs and the connecting harness if you get them from the dealer.

jks, check the CL classifieds or call one of our ClubLexus vendor sponsors that offer discounts to CL members. Here are a couple:

I read your orginal thread on this. Lexus (dealership) told me that the tasks you did could not be done. They said the wiring was different for the tail lights from 00 vs 01. I tried ordering the chrome bezel and was told those won't interchange either. How hard was it to change the bezel? I really hate the black one.
i was able to put 01+ tail lights on my 98 car with out no problem.. it couldn't be any easier then it was.. too easy i might add.. chrome bazel.. takes one screw driver and about 1-2 of your time..
