Default *DIY* GS400 PCV Replacement

just did mine today... just cus its old and ide rather have a new one. Rubber grommet has harden into hard plastic ..

Now lets get some tools out. Heres what you need.

10mm Socket
12mm Socket (optional if you want to remove the vacuum thing for more room)
Pliers
Coat Hanger (optional if your PCV grommet rips apart)

Parts:
12204) 1220450020 - PCV Valve
12204A) 9048018001 - PCV Valve Grommet

now lets locate the PCV. Remove the engine cover using the 10mm socket.

PCV location. Close up later.

Start off by removing this hose OR removing it from the right side and rotate it out of the way.

Remove PCV Hose

PCV with Cover

Remove cover and use pliers to pull PCV valve off. If your car engine is like mine then itll take lots of force. I actually destroyed my PCV and had half of the rubber grommet inside the valve cover.

What it looks like removed.

my broken pieces .. I had to use a coat hanger to bring the grommet up... also to pick up the small pieces i put grease on the hanger to make the smaller pieces stick.

New pieces.

what it looks like with the grommet on.

Now to install... didnt take a pic of this BUT...

First clean the surrounding areas where the PCV will sit. I coated the area lightly with oil. Insert the rubber grommet FIRST into the valve cover.

AFTERWARDS apply light oil on the outside of the PCV and insert into the grommet. Dont forget about the cover.

Put everything back and youre good to go.

marginal benefits i would assume vs cleaning the old one.

the reason why i replaced it is because i figure its old n for less than $10 for an OEM one why not? lol

yeah mine was all dry rotted from the heat and ended up cracking to pieces,i got cute and decided to use a flat head to pop the pieces up. unfortunately this is how the screwdrivers bit fell out and into the PCV hole.....which is why i had to change my valve cover gasket awhile ago. it was a nightmare for something i didnt really need to do

yea its tough to remove. heres how i did mine.

i removed the oil cap and put a rag over it to prevent stuff from falling in... also provides a cushion.

Use a clamp tool (dont know whats it called but you can screw in the back to make it tighter or loosen it to loosen).

Clamp the base of the PCV and pivot it on the oil fill area. This gives you better leverage and you will eventually feel the PCV lifting up. just take your time and dont rush. last thing you need is a damaged oil fill area.

most likely the grommet will break. no worries. just use a coat hanger to lift up and fliers to remove the pieces.

I changed this on a gs300 ls400 and ls430. Don't know the specific issues with the
GS4 but when I did mine, I did give the pvc valve/grommet a shot of penetrating spray prior to going at it, I dunno, it did seem to come out a bit easier, but definitely needed pliers and not just by hand, worth a try if you have a sticky one.
