Default Tires and wheels

Alright, I just confused myself.

I am currently running 2 sets of OEM 17' gs400 wheels (the 5 spokes) 1 set is chrome and the other set is silver for winter.

I'm in the process of buying snow tires for 1 set and summer tires for the other set and It currently has 235/45/17 tires on them. Could I buy 235/50/17 for the snows to give me a little more meat on them? how about 225/50/17? I researched all this and was just running 235/45/17 but some people said otherwise

My main reason for asking this is I recently got offered a set of used blizzaks 235/50/17 for 200 bucks used for two seasons, awaiting how much tread is left. I can't find any decent used snow tires that are 235/45/17 size

Are you lowered at all? the wheel will end up being about 1" taller than OEM. Many of us run that diameter on 20s. Depending on the the tire, there may be some rubbing at the top of the wheel well liner and on turning (possibly on reverse).

I had a family member buy 18s with 45 series tires which works out to the same diameter as your 59 series on 17s. He was not dropped. I did not get his offsets but he complained about rubbing periodically. He did not ask me about it before purchasing and this was years ago. He no longer has the car so I can't check his specs.

Not dropped might plan on it in the future during the summer months but I would reverse the drop with my winter set up.

If it were my car I wouldn't do it, the size being too large as one of the main reasons. Check out 1010 tires for comparison (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit). As far as decent winter or ice tires in 235/45-17, the best of the best are in that size; Michelin PA3, Blizzak LM60, Blizzak WS-70, and Michelin Xi2 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...45&diameter=17).
