Default Keep or toss?......Idk

Let me explain the (LONG) story of my bad day.
[B
[I]Well to start it off the morning, I wake up late for school this morning and I don't hear the end of it from my sister and my mom. I get into the car to start it and warm it up a bit as i usually do. Well I start the car and hear this very funny noise coming from my engine. I begin to wonder what it is, but then got off track and began to think about my other chores I have to do after school. I feel a headache coming so I call my sister to hurry up since we were late already. I put my car in R and it sounds very loud, a lot louder than yesterday or on a normal basis. I told my sister to let me shut the car off and try it again. She says we need to hurry, so me, being a good brother, just agrees to listen to her (bad choice as you will find out) without arguing.

As I drive to her school (driving a little faster than normal today), we are waiting in the car pool line and i look in my rear view mirror and I see more smoke coming from my exhaust than usual and I hear my engine being very loud. I thought it might be because of the cold engine since this week is a little colder. Well I get to the school door and my sister gets out, as she opens the door, she says she smells something burning. I immediately smell it after she opened the door and it begins to worry me.

I pull over to the side in a parking lot and I shut the car off. When i shut it off, I kept hearing something like the starter still trying to crank. Now here is where I might have really messed things up. I turn the car back on and it starts immediately but begins to smoke as I can see from my headlights since it was dark out. I turn the car back off and that thing that was cranking itself earlier was still trying to crank.

Well not knowing what to do now, I told myself I am just a little over a mile from my house, I can make it. Well I get in and start the car for the last time and it does start, but begins to smoke badly. I put it in R and as I begin to back out, I see my battery light turn on on the dashboard. I see my headlights turn off and it begins to smoke heavily. At this point I honestly did not know what to do. I told myself I really screwed up my car this time. The first thing that came to mind was to open the hood, doing so I open the hood and a huge cloud of smoke just hits me right in the face. I began to cough and choke. I quickly walked a good 15ft away from the car to stop coughing. At this point, there are a good 25+ cars just passing by looking at me. I get back into the car and everything is completely dead, nothing is working in the car. I called my dad and he tells me to find a way to school and to leave the car there and he will be there in about 45 mins ( he is at work). I call my buddy to come pick me up and as I get off the phone, a man stops by and ask if I need or lift or anything. I tell him i got somebody on their way, thanks though. He asks if I knew what was going on, but i told him what happened and he says he has no clue, and wishes the best of luck.

I get to school smelling like smoke from the engine, and I have a huge test I had to take. Well with my GS on my mind, I don't think I did to well. After school, I go home to try to tow my car home with my dad and his truck. We stay in the parking lot for 2hrs+ trying to figure out to tow it home since its just about a mile. Well we failed and it starts to rain, my window is down because i was trying to hear my engine this morning. It pours for a good 5 mins, my inside driver side is soaked now but their is a trash bag their now but I don't see why put one now. Well I get home and call a tow truck and he is picking it up tomorrow.

Now I kinda think back and feel kinda stupid for starting the car up and shutting it off twice but we all make mistakes I guess. The car is in the parking lot now and there is nothing I can do, inside is soaked and I know that the it's gonna be pretty deep in my pocket to repair.

The big question is:
A) Fix the GS after seeing what all I need to get repaired
B) Buy an 07-08' TL-S (preferably 6 speed if I can find one near me)
C) Buy a 12' C-350 Sport Sedan
D) Buy a 12' E-350 with Sport Package

I just need some opinions right now, I've had enough for one day with thinking.

Thanks for taking time to read about my day and sorry for making it so long.

Any of you guys have any idea what this might run me?

If it seems to be to much, I am thinking about tossing it and buying a new car in about a month time frame.

Again thank you for reading the whole story.

First off, sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Now, I think before you come to the 'I need a new car' conclusion, I think you should answer a few quesetions

1. Can you describe what the smoke was like?
2. What color? Black/Blue/White?
3. Did it smell of fuel or was it a 'sweet' type of smell.
4. Were you able to check the fluids in the car after? Oil and coolant specifically
5. The the thing crank at all right now?

Just a few questions that will help others help you.

Good luck.

This happened to me earlier this year, car was off but it just started cranking like crazy so I remove the terminal from the battery, then just put it back on...couple weeks later is started the car and noticed I forgot something in the house so I went in and came out and the car was smoking from the engine like it was bout to blow up...so I shut the car off then turned it on and everthing didn't work no power no nothing!
I call my uncle who's a mechanic and he says this might sound crazy but this happen to his other customer too, who also had a gs and the guy says he thinks is the starter or the alernator must've burned so he replaced the starter and boom the car works fine...
So obviously I tried it and now my car is fine lol

Good luck.
1. It was a very heavy cloud of smoke
2. White
3. It smelt like something was burning.
4. I did not unfortunately, I was kinda afraid of touching the engine
5. The car is completely dead right now, it doesn't even make a chiming door sound when you open the door nor does the lights turn on.

Thanks for the luck lol I really need it right now

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that's had this problem. Hopefully all I need is a new alternator or starter. You basically summed up everything I said above using a lot less words. lol
