Buy an sc430 with non-run flats. You get an 18" donut!

I checked the spare and I have the standard 16 inch silver alloy which was not surprising as that's waht's on the car. What did surprise me was that it is the smaller standard size. It's the 215/60 vs. 225/55 I have on the car. Maybe the factory originals were the 215's and the replacements were the 225's? I bought the car with 42K miles on it as a CPO.

Anyway, I made sure it had 36psi in it just in case.

My old M Roadster didn't even have that. To save space, BMW included their "M Mobility System" which was patching goop and an air compressor that hooked up to the car's cigarette lighter. Supposedly BMW wants to move to this on all their vehicles, as it's a lot cheaper and does save room. Their corporate reasoning (honestly) is that you almost never need a spare, and nowadays everybody has a cell phone and can call for roadside assistance if you really get into trouble.

here is an interesting thought...

my bmw's owners manual does not suggest tire rotation. i think the reason behind it is that since it is a rear wheel drive car, tires on the same axle should wear about the same. when they are worn down, just replace both tires on the same axle.

however, rotating tires with your full size spare will lengthen the time before you have to folk out some $$ to replace tires.

when we bring our lexuses in for schedule maintenance service, tire rotation is a part of the service, right? i recall seeing "tire rotation" in the maintenance booklet. true?

any comments to share?

Better yet, if you have a GS, sell the stock 17's and buy a set of used SupraTT stock wheels. That way if you have a "big brake" upgrade and you get a flat in front OR back on your aftermarket wheels, you can have the SupraTT 17x8" high disc wheel in your trunk to use as a spare.....
Also, if you go to the track a(drag or street course)you can use the Supra wheels as well. The rear is a 9.5" that will easily hold a 285/295mm tire...
