1998 gs400
I've got a line on a '98 GS400 but it is very high mileage (260,000). Owner claims mostly "highway" miles. Suspension has been changed and sythetic oil every 5000 miles.
How many more miles can I safely expect to get?
Thoughts?
Thanks.

Check out our classifieds here also.. There's a few GS400's in the 7.5k to 9k range with mods.. Its a gamble with that many miles but if you can get it for dirt cheap than a 1jz or 2jz swap can be done... GL.. keep us posted..
I wouldn't worry about it as long as it doesn't make any weird sounds from the engine. The only thing I'd worry about is the timing belt because the gs4 does have an interference motor. Besides, those things are known to go 400k+ miles right? LS4 and GS4 have the same motor?

Yeah, that's too much for that car. I got white 98 GS3 with 185k, two owners and the last owner barely drove it in the winter and she's only had it for 9 months when I bought it which means she only drove it for 3-4 months out of those 9 months, for $3700. Keep searching. They're out there. I think another member just paid around $5k for a GS4 with 100k less miles than the one you're looking at.
I paid 5000 for my 99 with 128k 2 owners and every little thing he went to the lexus dealer. I have a stack or records and this car is almost near mint.
I know you can do better. I just bought mine last week in Boston

In most cases, you are absolutely right. Many people will neglect older cars and really only put them up for sale when they know the lack of maintenance and neglect is quickly catching up with them. They don't want to dump the money for repairs so it's easier for them to sell the car and provide a big headache to the next owner.
However, there is a VERY small percentage of people that actually do maintain a car and treat it right.... so it really depends. If this car has all the needed maintenance done and it drives good, than the price is understandable.
If the car was neglected and by "changed suspension" all they did was replace the balljoints.... and no other maintenance on i, than forget it.
