Default CA emissions?

What exactly is the difference for CA cars vs the rest of the US?

Would a GS from CA be any less power vs. a GS from IL?

I don't think so. The GS is still made in Japan and the car is the same for all 50 States.

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

i believe CA has one of the straightest emmision rules in the whole US. so if you have a modded GS that passes emmisions here, you are probably good to go

Many automakers create a single vehicle that meets CA emmisions rather than create multiple versions. As rominl said, CA has the strictest -- so if the automakers meet CA they meet all other states by default. Another case of CA eco freaks dictating what the rest of the country gets.

My point is I was thinking of buying a used GS430 (01) from a guy in LA. I did not want performance to be any less due to the fact that CA cars have strict emission standards. It appears there are no "special" exhaust mods on the car from the factory. If thats correct then it should be just as fast and any other GS. Right?

There is no preformance difference between a CA car and a Federal car. All CA cars are outfitted with an EGR Temp sensor, this is to ensure the ECU knows the EGR is working. Because of this the ECU is different also. All lexus made from about 1995 and up are CA cert.

I'm also do Smog Checks.
