Default Contemplating a mod... Thoughts? (Proper cluster back lighting)

Anyone think about throwing a pair of Oracles CCFL Halos behind their guage cluster? They're round, very thin and bright dont see why these wouldnt do a good job if not better than hot spot leds. Best part is that they're round (and the GS headlights are the same diameter at our cluster) so they can be put around the cluster circles and give an even lighting:

My GS ones:

obviously any color is available. Be nice to hear others thoughts and possible hurdles that may be ran into.

well the purpose would be to get rid of the nasty green that pretty much no one likes. I'm thinking getting some 6k back there

just an assumption, but since the GS uses cold cathodes for back lighting and that's what these are, one would want to believe they would react the same as the factory ones , my plans would be to find out how the factory ones are hooked up and well, unsolder the factory and re-solder with these. Now I've read the problems companies have had working with the GS cluster, but they weren't working apples with apples. This is why I'm hoping those who have worked on these could chime in on exactly how everything is connected. I'm sure once I open it up I can figure it out, but be nice to get some other info before starting; I need to go through that write up that I think Jeff has. Now the one downside I can think of though is the delicacy of these rings; not very hard to break them and at $150 a pop, it can get costly

I'd really like to get my hands on a spare cluster to monkey with, I think this mod is very promising and a great solution. I think if we measure the actual size of each gauge and since Oracle is a sponsor on here, they could custom make the rings and sell a kit for us OR they probably have kits with the right size rings already from another car.

I also wish the backlighting was pure white. That would look AWESOME. Or if the light was pure white and the needles are red, or vice versa.

Subscribed.

I would think that you could lower the voltage to reduce brightness (to a point). It would be interesting to see what the recommended operating voltage is on them and what effect lower voltage has (brightness, lifespan, etc).

Thats what the dimmer is for silly I'm sure the solution would be to bring the ring further back from the surface if that were the case.

Thats where I have questions. I know these 'halos' come with a mini ballast, I'm wondering if our cluster uses one and if we can use it to power the halos.

If anyone wants to donate a cluster I'd go to work on it
