Hey whats up CL. I picked up this 99 GS400 with 114k miles a few months back and when I first went under the car I found this oil leak that is accumulating on the passenger side of the motor covering some lines and leaving its residue on the block and oil pan. From what I can see it does not look like an oil pan gasket since there is oil on things above the pan gasket line, my best take is that it is either the valve cover gasket or maybe an oil sensor leaking. The rest of the motor is dry, its is mostly just on the right side of the block underneath the exhaust manifold. Here are some pictures of the leak for reference, any idea's would be great, I'm hoping someone on here has had a similar experience and can point me in the right direction. I apologize for the crappy shot angles, I tried my best to get them clean and clear. Thanks a lot. -Jay

ahh those dirty little cam seals or vvti gears they suck. either way i just posted it for someone else for the gs400 1uzfe how to look for these try searching oil leaks! as a search. Might find some info that way with pictures hehe. Best of luck to ya.

 

holy rust on the timing belt tensioner. the leak is coming from up top.

Yeah I was hoping it wasn't that, but it looks as if i'll sort it out when I do my timing belt/water pump service this week. Figured I'd give it a shot see what people think.

That leak looked like mine 2 years ago on my 400...

Coming from the top, it could be power steering pump, valve cover gaskets, VVT cam gear, cam seals, and or the front cam cap.

I could have sworn that my cam seals, and or the front cam cap were leaking as well as my valve covers. The scope of the work for cam seals is extensive and time consuming, I crossed my fingers and replace just the valve cover gaskets. I spent a couple of hours and I replaced the spark plugs at the same time. I cleaned up the oil mess the best I could, residual oil kept coming for a few days till it stopped all together.
