What does the GS4 really weigh?
Reason for asking is that I’m considering using my G-TECH for horsepower comparisons. I’ve started using it for 0-60 measurements and believe it to be (fairly) accurate for 0-60 and I believe that other members have found it to be within .2 sec (G-TECH says .1 sec.) of track numbers. That’s close enough to compare before/after results of adding some performance mod.
When measuring horsepower, the G-TECH requires input of vehicle weight. The user manual states that manufacturer’s weight numbers are based on a “full passenger capacity” and advises to “subtract 180lbs for each missing passenger”. Numbers from Lexus say that the GS4 weighs 3,693 lbs. (GS3 = 3,638) – stands to reason that if that weight is “inflated” by 4 non-existent passengers x 180 (720 lbs.), when I’m the only one in the car, that it would yield incorrect horsepower figures. Yes, the difference in before/after would still be valid, but I’d like to see hp numbers as close as possible to real dyno numbers.
Not likely that anyone has actually had their GS on scales, but it’s worth a try. In the absence of (more) accurate weight numbers, does anyone know if manfacturer's curb weights are really based on maximum passengers as stated? Are we actually driving 2,973 lb sedans when driving alone? Just a thought!
Thanks for any input, guys.

Water weighs 8.34 Pounds per gallon.
Gasoline weighs 6.1 Pounds per gallon.
Your about 100 pounds heavier on a full tank.
I'd say the GS is around 3,800 pounds on average.
Do some searches....If its anywhere on the net......It's here

Right - it's also my understanding that the weight is measured with a full tank of gas - but the main point that I'm interested in is whether the measurement is with a FULL PASSENGER LOAD - in the GS case, 5 passengers. Thanks for the replies anyway - I'll continue to look into this point.
I believe that the wieght you find on your door sill marked "Gross" is the full loaded wieght. (Usually a thousand pounds or so over actual vehicle weight)

I checked the vehicle information sticker and it shows 4,685 lbs GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), which according to other web sources is made up of vehicle weight, fuel and other fluids, cargo (spare, jack, tools, etc.) and passengers. The sill sticker also shows a passenger weight of 900 lbs for 5 passengers. Subtracting 720 lbs. (4 passengers) yields a fully-gassed weight of 3,965 with driver only. So, I’ll adjust this according to approximate fuel level when I G-TECH it and it should be as accurate as I can get.
The 3,690 weight normally quoted appears to be without passengers and with a few gallons of fluids.
Anything you think I’m missing, holler.
