Default Lifetime warranty on seat belts?

My passenger seat belt retracts slower than normal; by quite a bit. I had the same issue with my driver's side, but had it fixed (free) while the car was still under warranty.

I'd really like to take it into the dealer for repair, but, am afraid I will get stuck with a gi-normous invoice just to have them check it out (in the event I decide not to have them repair if it'll cost me more than an arm+leg).

Can anyone confirm, I'm in So Cal, that Lexus will assess and replace/repair seat belts w/out charge (considering it is a safety issue)?

TIA!

call the dealership, ask for service manager and tell him your problem and ask if Lexus will warranty the seat beltys because its a safety issue. you will then have your answer without even stepping into the dealership.

definitely ask the dealership for goodwill if you have established previous relationship with them.

My driver side started to shred and just called Longo Lexus.
Funny thing is same dealer give me 3 different answers.
Service said is 72 months or 70k miles
Parts said 36 months and 36k miles, then is 84 months 70k miles.

Does anyone knows which is correct?
The retail for that sucker is $260

i highly doubt they will replace the piece that retracts the belt itself for free. its only a safety issue if the belt starts to rip by itself, which i've never heard happen.

I do have little tears in the belt, but recently the belts don't go up fast as they once used to, I have to help and guide them in, its not a huge problem, but it would be nice not to have to do that

i dont know about lexus but i took my 93 240sx to nissan about 8 years ago because the seatbelt motor stopped working (it had the automatic seatbealt thing that slides open/close... dont know whats its called) and at first they said i had to pay for the parts and labor, but i told them "i thought seatbelts had lifetime warranty?"... and they ended up changing everything for free.... so i would recommend just going straight to the dealership and let them look at it. im sure if its a safety issue they will take care of it.

The 240 was a recall, you will find that information on zilvia.net, may have to do some digging for these cars, odd that the door lock actuators were not recalled.

Not just odd, but sad and frustrating.

From my understanding all cars have lifetime seatbelt warranties. Back in 2004 I had a 93 Civic hatch that the retractor stopped working and the dealership fixed it for free no questions asked. They tole me that seatbelts are always covered. I would talk to the dealership. It's probably something to do with the fact that they are required by law and know that not everyone has money to fix them if they break.

Default 6 years/70K miles

I called my local Lexus dealer and they said seat belts have an extended warranty but expires after 6 years or 70,000 miles. Although, if you live in Kansas it's covered for life.

If it is just the rewinder it is very easy to fix yourself - you can just wind up the spring.
