Lately for like the last 2 weeks or so i've been hearing a squeaking sound from the front wheels. It sounds like a squeak you would hear if you floored it n the tires slipped just a little bit but my tires have plenty of thread and it happens while driving normally. it happens a lot on right turns but happens plenty of time on left turns, while accelerating and while braking. could this be the lower ball joints? i read somewhere ur supposed to turn ur wheels all the way to the right and then all way to the left n if u hear a weird noise thats how u tell its bad.. but they dont make any noise at all wen i do that. anybody have any ideas what it could be? school is ending in a week and i have a long drive home (from so-cal to the bay) and i dunt want something going wrong on the way..thanks in advance
sure can be ball joints, or could be your hub bearings. Jack the car up and grasp the rim/tire on the sides as if gonna hug it, now wiggle it left to right, do the same but up and down. If it wiggles left to right its the bearing, if it wiggles up and down its the ball joint (or visa versa, dont remember ). Question though, is it a squeak that happens when you hit bumps or is it a squeak that consistent while the wheel is turning? Oh and for the small cost of the ball joints, better of just doing them to save the worry and do the outer tie rods too since your down there and have to align it anyways I believe Sewell Lexus has a ball joint/tie rod kit available (with our discount) for pretty cheap
i just got the bearings changed a couple months ago so I dont think its that. it doesn't happen on bumps. started happening only when turning right at first (sometimes) and now it (sometimes) happens while accelerating just normally and while braking. if it is the lower ball joints then i guess my next question would be how safe is it? is it safe enough to drive 400 miles? i got finals this whole week and dont have time to do this now plus if i make it home my parents will pay for it =)
Well, driving speed limit or not, ball joints are gonna fail, I wouldnt go on the freeway at least... safer for it all to fall out at 45 than at 65+ on the freeway...
yeah it turned out my right bearing was out and left lower ball joint so i changed both n got new brake pads but now it seems i need new rotors.. if my steering shakes when braking at high speeds tat means i need new rotors rite?? tats wat i was told
if your tires squeak like they're slipping - get an alignment.
And if your steering shakes when braking - could be rotors, axles, bearings, don't know what else..
I just did the lower ball joints, stabilizer links and tie rods. The car goes straight, but when I take left-hand turns at 40+mph I can hear the passenger front tire squaek. How come?
If they squeak when going straight, it's certainly a toe-in problem. You should get it checked after replacing tie rod ends anyway. If they squeak when hard turning - maybe it's time to get some sport tires
no mean to thread jack but wheres the best place to buy the lower ball joints and tie rods? anyone know how much it costs with the club lexus discount from Sewell?
Wanted to bump this Because I'm having the same symptoms while turning right and now I'm hearing it more when I drive straight. Based in this thread I'm assuming it's bearings. I've already changed lbj and outer rods.
