GS300 or GS430...?

Get a 430. Take it from me, GS300 is slow! At the time when I bought my GS, the GS430s were still out of my reach.. Now that prices have dropped like crazy, I'd get a 430

If you are concerned with the UZ reliability vs the JZ, don't be. Both engines are very reliable and the V8 is no harder to work on than the I6, in my experience.
Considering your plans are to keep the drive train stock, you would be missing out by not going with the 430...
good luck

Ive had all 3, that is I had a 98 gs400, then a 99 gs400, the a 2000 gs300 and finally now a 01 gs430. The only difference I feel is an extra 30 mile trip with the 300. Call me crazy but I think the mileage on the 400 and 430 are so similar, that I can't really tell the differnce. If I were you though, I will go with a 430 (sorry 300/400 lovers) lol. Prices are not really that crazy as they used to be and keep in mind that it will be 01-05 in years as well. And trust me when I say, when you press on the gas, it answers.... Hit me up if you decide to get it and need a good deal on oem parts....

Yeah I think the general consensus is to get the 430. I think kind of the straw that broke the camels back, is the fact that a V8 is so much more enjoyable to drive. Torque is just such a wonderful feeling. The ability to over take on the HWY without having to really downshift is priceless.
And of course the fact they're both the same price and cost of ownership is virtually identical. In fact I found a 2002 430 for sale locally for $10,000 with 79k miles. And it's blk/blk which is definitely what I want. The only downside is it has a very ugly, very generic set of 22's. So, yeah lol.
Rich, thanks for that insight and for the hookup. Thankfully my family owns an auto repair shop. Our head tech has tons of experience albeit with his 3rd gen RX-7 but he has a lot of seat time in it. It runs 7.4 in the 1/8th so it's a fast car. So my parts and labor hookups are well catered to
Thanks again guys!

Yes it does come with a twin rotor engine, designated the 13B-REW. It's a 1300cc engine with twin sequential turbo chargers that produces 255 BHP. It's amazing that an engine so small produces so much power. Me personally I want to get the 3rd gen and swap an LS2 into it 400 BHP and 400 TQ. out of a car that weighs less than 2800 lbs is a lot of power. And believe it or not the all aluminum 6.0 litre V8 weighs only about 80 lbs. more than the 1.3 litre all steel rotary engine

GS430 all the way. I'd spend a little extra and get the 430 over the 400. The 400 had a few little problems that were fixed in the 430. The 300 shouldn't even be an option.
