Default DIY Project #2 this weekend: 2 Toning OEM Valance

I need to calm down on these projects... geesh


I saw this on a few cars but couldn't find a specific thread on it, so.... I went for it.

Tools used:

3" Blue tape
Rustoleum Satin Black Spraypain
Iphone playing anything but Lil Wayne

Very very subtle.... I'm not sure if I like it though. Something just doesn't look right to me, but if it floats your boat, then that's great!

I have no idea what you did. The first pic looks like black, but then the rest are gray?

what he did was he only painted the bottom and top black and i guess he tapped off the slits in the middle... thats probaly why it looks weird

How long did it take to tape? Yeah, wondering too how it'll look with the whole section painted.

A little something to think about. It looks as though you did not sand down the clear coat on the existing finish and then applied another base coat on top. But from what I remember, that's not a good idea since the upper base coat has nothing to bind to which will flake down the road. Good try though.

why wouldnt you pull the grill off before painting it? Thats crazy...its only 5 nuts and 2 bolts.. Overspray Nightmare

Eh, maybe 25 minutes? I can always paint the slits (and I think this will look much better once it gets a lip) but here is how it would have looked all painted.

I did that the first time. It's really not that hard to be precise with spraypaint... besides, has nobody here claybarred their car?
