new leather seat covers
any body on here know how to get the cup holder out of the rear arm rest for the rear seat. it doesn't seem to come out and i cant see any screws holding it in. anyone know how this comes out? thanks for you help guys.
Yep to remove the entire assy...but for the cupholder just to use it as normal push it in hard and the cupholders should come out..But to take it use a plastic screwdriver and pry.
I have a 97 Lexus LS400 that I'm having the same problem with - removing the darn thing. I'm an auto upholsterer with over 30 years experience and can pretty much weasel my way through any interior problem, but I'm stumped - as is everyone else in my shop. I even had a competitor who came by this morning who looked at it and shrugged his shoulders. I love Lexus cars, but the brilliant folks who designed this tray should be hung by their strotums and forced to remove it blindfolded! Whew! That feels better.
Seriously, since this is my own car, I'm going to take the plunge and force it out so I can see if there's a way to remove it on future projects. I'll post my findings here. I'll just pad out the void and re
cover it sans the cupholder, but at least I'll know.

Yay! I figured it out. I'm the guy with the LS400 who posted the naughty reply about the engineer who designed this - the one suggesting he be hung upside by his junk and made to remove the tray blindfolded. My suggestion on that still stands. Nothwithstanding, I was able to remove the cup holder like this:
Slide the tray out as far as it will reach. On the top of the tray, there is a plastic tab on each side (2 tabs) that protrude just far enough to keep the tray from from coming all the way out. The tabs are located about 1.25" in on each side and they catch the top lip of the bezel when the tray is out as far as it should go. Using a flat tool (steel banding works great; a flat head screwdriver will work - just be extra careful) insert it between the top of the tray and the bezel and push the tab down slightly while pulling out on the side you are prying on. Pull out that side of the tray and do the same on the other side. The tray will release effortlessly at this point.
Next, there is a small phillips head screw on each side of the bezel securing it to the metal rectangular shaped hollow frame that contains the holder. Use a #1 phillips scredriver to remove the screws and remove the bezel for new cover installation. That's way too complicated to figure out, but once you know how its easy. Who's da' man!
