um maybe i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the DRLs run off the dual setting from the high beams. unless u turn on ur city lights (or parking lights) then u could change those to LEDs, i did that. but i kno even when i have my city lights on during the day my DRLs still come on

factory DRL, daytime running lights, run off the high beam bulb 9005 at 6V rather than 12V.

if the car never came with them, what most do to add drl is just to add a switch to the parking light, 194, and have it on all the time when the engine is on.

technically, for legality issues, DRL just means u need some sort of light visible from the front of the car, on all the time when the car's engine is on

Can you use ANY LED 9005? some won't work at less than 12V applications, right?

You can use an LED 9005. PIAA makes a good one, but you won't get the DRL effect. The only way is to do like others have stated, switch the factory halogen 194 for an LED one, and add a switch to the car for your parking lights(so the rest rest of the lights, excluding the headlights will not come on). Without the switch, you will have the sides, and the rear lights come on. If you have factory DRL, you can still change the parking ones, but the factory DRL will still come on, so I think you would be defeating the purpose. The only other way I can think of, would be to add a switch, and splitter with a voltage regulator to seperate the voltage from 12 to 6, but then you have no high beams, or there would be confussion with using your 9005's. Too much trouble I think. I just added the switch and left the halogen 194's intact. I never did like too much custom stuff on the outside. Just my .02 so I hope it helps.

Although............ thinking about it, if you have stock DRL(9005) you can swap out the Sylvania for say a PIAA 9005 and you will just get a whitter soft glow, as oppsed to that yellowish/orange glow you get with the stocks at 6v. In this case, you are not adding, but just changing the color glow.. I would be surious to see how it looks, so if anyone has the factory DRL, try swapping out your stock for a PIAA LED or super white type of bulb. See what effect you get?? If you do, maybe you can post a pic for us.

Thanks,
