Question GS jump?

I noticed that when I shift into "reverse" (from "park") the rear end of the car seems to "hop". Is this characteristic of too much pressure in the brake system or is this something all GS's do or what? Any help is appreciated.

Haha, no man, thanks for the laugh anyway.

Can anyone else offer some insight?

hop?

no i dont experience a hop with my GS. what kind of hop? does it jerk into gear? does the rear end go up or down? when depressing the brake while going into reverse, i feel a slight pull and the rear end sorta goes lower. and the engine goes lower. no hop.

I think the rear sort of lifts up. It doesn't jerk into gear. I put my foot on the brake, shift into "R" and the rear hops up. I just asked my dad about it and he's been wondering about it for a while too; he thinks it's the fact that the wheels are trying to go back when the car is in"R" but having the foot on the brake sorts of prevents the wheels from rolling for a second and most likely causing the "hop". I hope that's all it is. Thanks for your reply.

As power is applied through the drivetrain when going into gear (forward or reverse), with brakes on, any car will "squat" as that torque is dealt with; some vehicles do this much more noticeably than others and it's only really noticeable in automatic transmission cars. The GS is definitely noticeable. I wouldn't describe it as a "hop", however. So, if that description doesn't sound like what yours is doing, I dunno what it is..........

Yeah, that's it exactly. I couldn't find the right word, so I used "hop". "Squat" is definetly a better term. Thanks.

This only happens when my car is cold, the RPM's are higher then when its warmed up so when I shift into gear my car squats too...this to me is normal...

Aloha

When going into forward gears, that "squat" always put me in mind of getting set in the blocks or a large cat preparing to pounce............like a leopard on a tethered goat!
