Question GT Autosports

Does anyone have any experience with buying from GT Autosports??? I'm looking for some RMM aeroparts for my GS3, and their prices seem to be OK.

Any feedback...... good/bad is appreciated.

If bad, who else should I use???

Thanks all,

Eric

please do a search on GT autosports, there are some threads reagarding their service (and lack thereof) and complaints about loooong delivery times and them being a front for another company.

Straight up? I'd do RMM direct. (It helps that I'm in LA though and close to RMM)..

Here's why.

1) The price diff is pretty minimal between buying from them and others

2) they can cut you a deal if you negotiate (tell them you found x for this price but you heard much better things about buying direct....find a 'name" and say some body from CL sent you ...you're guaranteed a discount)

3) If you have probs with the parts, you go directly to them rather than off to a third party who will go to them and the triangle effect will give you probs

4) You have one direct connection with regards to Quality Control - straight from manufacturer is as best bet of a quality product rather than manufacturer to third party to you. (there could be shpping damages, mishandling, etc)

Which aero peices are you interested in anyway?

The thought has definitely crossed my mind....I'm in PA and wasn't really sure who is reputable. The more I read old threads about GT, the more my jaw drops in disbelief. Won't be dealing with them, that's fo damn sho.......

I'm starting slow, just looking for an RMM 3-pc spoiler, and hopefully color-matched......maybe a body kit after I find a nice set of wheels.

I definitely appreciate your help, esp since I've only had my Lex for three months now. I need to learn who to buy from. Sounds like direct is the move!!!

I'd check on your spoiler. I've heard mixed reviews. I've seen one on a car and well, fitmet was ok but the spoiler warped.

I know they're cheap and all but well, I still have quality concerns. (I have the RMM grill and am not too happy with it)

Regarding paint, you're always better off buying it unpainted and taking it to color match yourself there.

Esp since you car is a 98, your paint will have faded. There is NO such thing as a colormatch w/o actual blending on your car by a paint shop UNLESS the car is straight out of the lot - even then, there's always a slight offset because of paint quality and/or # of layers (esp on metallic cars like my silver one - EXTREMELY hard to colormatch).

On the 3 peice spoilers which are on the car touching a panel, you have to be extremely careful as you can tell of color differences immediatly. Stuff like roof spoilers and raised spoilers they're not too obvious but that RMM 3 peice will stand out if paint isn't set straight.

Call *ANY* spoiler place that guarantee's color matching to factory spec. They *WILL NOT* gurantee paint on a car older than 1 year old.

Just an FYI ....

In case you're wondering, I'm a paint freak heh heh. My whole bottom part of my car had to be Re-painted cuz I wasn't happy with known Lexus paint fading. Lexus shelld out over $3K to keep me happy haha

btw www.wingswest.com click spoilers, then click GS300, you'll see something familiar

tinygs- funny you should find this thread, I just got done reading your nightmare thread (all 7 pages) and every message I read further made ME upset that someone could be such an utter moron with no business sense, morals, etc. etc on down the line. Hope you have since had better buying experiences!!!!

NVMYGS3-I have to admit, I never considered the fade issue for an older car. Great point & point taken!! I'll prob just order from RMM / Wings West, whichever and then have my local guy paint the spoiler. Always good to see the person you're paying face-to-face....

Don't worry, if I had started with a *new* ride I would be super detail-oriented too. Saw the Wings West spoiler first and haven't seen/heard about any fitment/warping issues from all of my research. Thanks for the heads-up on the RMM 3-pc tho.

BTW- what is it with Lexus paint anyway?? Seems like every little object that dings/skips off my hood or fenders takes paint off with it....right down to the metal

It's so funny, if you look closely at the bottom part of the picture provided by wings west, you'll see a Rodmillen Logo. They're the same thing!!!!!

Anyway, regarding the paint thing, Lexus has a known problem of fading of the bottom urethane panels on cars. I did a thread on it (they repainted everything below the chrome moldings below my car under warranty) and it's just a lexus paint thing. Regarding dings on the paint, I think it has something to do with the metallic paint tha lexus has on it's older cars (<99). The newer models the paint is thick thick thick so they don't come out as much. I've also heard discussions that we notice it more becuase all Lexus cars are metallic paint only and they're more noticeable and WAY harder to fix/cover up. Me, I just gave up and put a carbon fiber look sport bra on. Just can't stop rocks no matter how you try.

If you're sold on the 3 peice, go fer it. It's a nice set. I considered it hard before (3 I considered were the TTE rear deck , Lsportline, and the RMM). Here in LA there are lots of ricers and fixed up cars and I see the 3 peice RMM look spoilers everywhere so I passed on that (seeing one warped on a GS didn't help) , LSportline is too expensive and it doesn't blend well with the car w/o the body kit - so, I "settled" with the TTE and it's great! I'm so hapy and the fitment and quality is just awesome. It's hard polyurethane so it doesn't "melt" or warp and I don't have to worry about cracking (like when you close the trunk) like hollow fiberglass and cheap polyurethane spoilers.

Oh yeah, one last thing, warping is common on spoilers (I pay deep attention). your trunk is flat and the slightest warp or imperfection on a flat spoiler sitting directly ON your trunk will be noticeable. make sure you settle for no less.

WTF!!??!! I thought they were similar, but the EXACT same spoiler?? And even beyond that, $210.00 on RMM vs $357.00 on WW.......what gives???

I considered it hard before (3 I considered were the TTE rear deck , Lsportline, and the RMM)
See that??? You just HAD to throw the TTE back into the mix!! I was checking that one out too. Never found any place online to buy one tho.... how much deos that one go for??

Thank you for all of your input....there are soooo many choices out there for these GS's it's ridiculous!! Had no idea about the warping thing BTW....thanx

Re: The TTE Deck

call up steve ganz. He's the best guy (lowest price) to get that from. He's should have one in Stock I think but work quick if you do decide that route, they're hard to get (from Germany) and they dont' last. Usual wait time for TTE stuff is gulp, 2 months.

Tell him Ryan Sent you and he'll give you good pricing.

gonzo4u@earthlink.net or call him @
(800) 90-TOYOTA

if you want tons of pics on the TTE, look at my gallery, I collect pics of them heh heh, I've got over 20.

Oh btw, $249 was my price.

for immediate delivery if he doesn't have it in stock, call up www.cecwheels.com - beware though- they're EXPENSIVE. They're the primary distributor in USA.

Take it easy.

Ryan

PS: Tri-logic eh? Cool... I'm on most of the time during the day. AOL-IM me @ AccentureRyan

Hate to say it but my experience wasn't positive. I think GTAutosports is just one guy and he's struggling. He CAN get some stuff others don't have and stuff others have but it may take a loooooooong time to get it. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to do a good job of setting expectations.
