1k > a felony, possible time in prison, outrageous IF any future insurance rates, fines

You might just want to tie that thing down intill someone come out to check your car. Get as much as you can for it since your going the insurance route.
You didn't say whether or not a police report was filed. It will go a long way with the insurance company if you did. And even with a $1K deductible, it's going to be cheaper than paying out of pocket and like I said - if they give you too much hassle about future rates, you can move to a different company.
thats why we have car insurance for. have your car fix it right by the insurance company or get an half azz job somewhere. btw, start looking for another insurance company online.
Just claim it on your bro's insurance for both counts. To fix his car and to fix your car. That way you guys only pay the deductable once. That way only one person's insurance rates will go up instead of both
I'm not sure how old you are but if you're on a family plan insurance, that will make a big difference if 2 drivers have raised premiums.
