GS430 common problems to expect - Just replaced power steering pump
I've an '01 GS430. This is my second Lexus with power steering pump replacement, the previous one was a 98 LS400.
I'm curious if this is a common problem on the Lexus with 150,000 miles? Also, what other problems can I expect from this car?

how did the pump fail? (A)leaking/losing fluid or (B) stopped working but plenty of fluid?
If it is the case (B), did you regularly change the fluid?
I do know the 1stGen LS400 had design problems with the power steering-one of the vaccuum valves sticks open and sucks fluid. Check in 1st Gen as I think it's one of the stickies.
However, I haven't noticed a pattern (based on posts here)to any of the other models.

Ray,
It's case A.
I hope this is not a pattern with Lexus, don't wish to do this with my 01 LS. Also, hope that it's not a particular way that I drive which causes this.
I'm also curious to find out if there's any other problem I should anticipate with GS430 at 150K miles.
Thanks

Had to replace mine last year at about 170k on the odometer. In my opinion, 10 years and 170k is pretty decent longevity for a ps pump. Also had to do my ac condensor about the same time so now I'm ready for another 170k.

If you don't know much about cars, before buying the car you can take it to a mechanic and pay a small fee to get an overall check up. Common problems on these cars is that they got ball joints failure, wheels shaking vibrations problems, and such. If you search more you can see other people's issues.
