Default Bad and Good

BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just purchased a 2001 GS430 from a family friend as a lot of you know, and i had to bring it in to be serviced and fixed. As i was driving through the toll road comin to LA, i came to a stop for traffic, and a motorcyle came speeding right by me... and ripped off my driver side mirror... they guy didnt fall off his bike though, but my mirror was gone...

so on my first day of my new car, it broke off!

brought the car in, and the guy gave me a free nav update...

not that any of you care cuz im only 16, but i just had to share my bad news.

A GS430 at age 16? That must be a record.

I hope you realize how unbelievably fortunate you are, and that you're careful. Remember, at 16 there's a lot you have to learn and I don't want you learning the hard way (wrapped around a tree for example).

Sorry to preach - just want you to enjoy your new car.

Sorry to hear about the mirror, but it's not the end of the world.

It seems to be a Lexus tradition ALOT of people I know with Lexus have had bad things happen on the first day they get the car...

Me for instance the first day I got mine it was hit with a bottle on the fender and light left a big dent and chipped the headlight and the fender and two of my friends with IS's got keyed on the very first day the had the cars...

I starting to think its tradition like a way of saying good luck!! Congrats on you new car..

Hi Guys,
This is really strange, the first day i got my car it almost got totalled, here's what happened. Picked up the car from the lot with the dealer plate still on it and was on my way home to swap it with the plates from the bmw.going along the road i saw a car parked on the right side approx.500 ft ahead.Just as i was about to come alongside, he pulled out, very quick reflexes saved my ***,i turned left,i'm now on the left side of the road with a car coming towards me and a tree preventing me from going any further left, by this time i know that the car has been hit somewhere in the rear section,at the same time i have to be making a quick left then a quick right and another quick left, while breaking, anyway i pulled it off and stopped the car. The approaching car saw what happened, pulled up beside me, and complemented my on my driving skills(damm good driving ) was what he said. the damage turned out to be not bad as the rear bumber got some rubber melted onto it from the front bumper of the guys car, at first it look as if they was boby damage ,but no,some auto polish got it off.

Damn Clive, what a stressful way to start off your ownership! You got a crash course [] in driving your new GS. Glad there was no damage.

Talking

Two thumbs up, Clive! Damn good control....would have been easy to overcook it at any point there. And tooG4me, as another one of the resident old guys (sorry, bit, once we get into that 5th decade, everybody thinks we're old.......except the few, the feeble, the dodders older than us), I second bitkahuna........awesome power brings awesome responsibility. Best advice: go to a driving school such as Skip Barber and really learn about car control........not only do you get to drive fast as hell, you learn HOW to, from pros. Immense fun, and incredibly worth it.

well congrats on your new GS but heres so more bad news:

all your money made from this day forward will be spent on your GS.

first day we had our LS400 it got keyed on 3 panels... or it was the first week.

first day of GS and first day ES was uneventful as far as i know

Thanks a lot! Trust me, i know that your not picking on me or anything... Its hard enough going to a school and seeing everyone in the parking lot wait to see what i have for my car today... well, actually, its kinda cool... Anyways, can you give me more info on the driving school please? Ive been driving for over a year with my permit etc. but ive really never dragged... and the fastest ive gone while street racing is around 80 and that was on a strip of wilshire.... but its all good... thanks for caring...

and yeah, good thing i only got a broken mirror and no oncoming traffic, clive!!!

How bout how can you be 18 years old and drive a 2001 911 Carrera with the full package?

I'm sure Toog4me is a ery responsible teenager.

Static911,

Are you talking about yourself?

I'm 22 and working hard for my '00 GS4. Yet, when i think back when i was in high school.............well, i wasn't the most trusting son a parent could have.

Although, if i were to get a 911 Carrera....i think i would be the most responsible person on earth.(until i drove it)

Yeah, and theres a kid in lexus lobby with a 2001 CL600 with LD-1s and some kit.. then theres another kid whos 19 and his parents just bought him a house with 3 home theatres.

Were all lucky... your spoiled if you have a lexus, and your extremely spoiled if you have more than that, but for some people its easier to get than others, and i wish i could help the guy who has to sell his sc cuz hes in debt- i really do... but my parents wont throw me the dough or anything close to that to help out a stranger.

Responsible? Yeah, plus the fact that my parents make me do all the errands and drive to La Jolla every weekend, but its all good!

Yeah the first week i got my GS a kid was tailgating me.. i saw him in the mirror and he was pissing me off, i just knew he was going to hit me, sure enough when traffic came to a quick stop .. BAM!!!..my car barely had a scratch but it did ben d my muffler a little bit.. his beretta was smashed in the front .. entire grill gone and hood buckled up back to the windshield..we almost got into a fight when i got outside cuz he had a smart mouth and i was pissed... i didnt even have the tag yet.. he didnt have a license... and it wasnt his car..yeah.. if i didnt have my sone in the car with me .. there is no telling how that might have went... But one thing i can say is i realized theat my car was well made.

i can understnad the flack you get for being young.. when i was 16 i had a corvette and a 67' camaro then when i was 17 i got a mustang gt..

When I was 16, I had a Nike Air Jordan's. Great gas mileage, low maintenance cost and a low insurance premium. I used to pick up girls in it all the time. The closest thing I had to a GS430 was the public bus.
