Default Cost for 2002 GSes

Hi All,

I have a coworker who is interested in a GS. He is not sure about getting a 300 or a 430. We will be going to a dealership this weekend to see what he can get.

With current discussions about how GS300s are now only SportDesign models and GS430s being "special order" types, is there any play on prices? For those who have recently priced out and/or bought a GS, how is the market? If you are shy, can you just let me know that you were able to negotiate below sticker? Is there a wait for the car?

I bought my GS300 when it first came out in 98. I paid pretty much sticker since the car was such a hot commodity. After seeing the thread a few months back about how much some of you paid, I felt almost ripped off paying sticker. I love hte car so I don't feel too bad. Still, I wanted to make sure this did not happen again.

Thanks for any feedback.

From what I've heard, you can't play much on the sportdesigns since they're hard to get. The best you friend can get is probably the $500 off from being a lexus prev owner (if he was) and maybe 2K off MSRP.

The GS3 starts at 38.6MSRP and 34.5 Invoice and the best deal on a GS3 deal was 4% over invoice which is a 3K or so markup after holdback and addon.

Thus, 2K off MSRP for a sportdesign isn't too bad IMO

The Lexus Dealership near me told me that I could buy a new GS 300 for $38,500 (MSRP $42,900)...but this is a "preferred customer price" basically meaning my family has purchased 6 cars from them in the past few years.

I haven't been pricing the 300, but a couple of different salespeople have told me that they are discounting it less because there is more demand for it.

I have been getting quotes for the 430 loaded (ML/nav, spoiler, chrome wheels/upgraded tires, floor mats, trunk mat, cargo net, wheel locks) for $51K. That's about $5K down from sticker, and they offer that price off the bat but then don't seem willing to go lower at all.

Iceman,

Since you are in Nor Ca, where are you seeing that price? I went to a dealer near work (to inquire about some parts) and a sales guy chatted with me but he said GS430 fully loaded for $58k. He did not offer the discount off the bat like your dealer did.

I have been working most closely with Jim Dale, the internet sales manager at Lexus of Stevens Creek (in San Jose). He and the fleet sales manager (Lee Cressio) have been tremendously helpful and seemingly up-front in their dealings with me. Jim's e-mail address is jdale@lexusofstevenscreek.dealerspace.com and Lee's phone number is (408) 296-2223. If you contact them, tell them that Rick from Monterey referred you. I don't know if it will make a difference for either one of us on the price, but I at least want them to know that I'm referring people to them because of their customer service attitude. Good luck!

I got ~4k taken off the 02 GS430 I ordered on the 28th of Feb. The car is on its way to my dearler as of today/tomorrow. The only reason I got that price is cuz I got prices from every dealer within 250 miles and then went to a local dealer and he reluctantly matched it. I've heard of people paying a 1k over invoice when they ordered theirs though. I personally spent about a grand more than I wanted to, but oh well. GS's are few and far betwee here in St. Louis and this car will definately turn heads so it'll be worth it.

Question what do you guys think?

speaking about gs430 pricing, recently i went do a local dealer and spotted an "executive" 2002 gs430 with nearly 8k miles. the window sticker is 56216 and dealer's final offer is 46000 plus tax/fees. this car is sold as new car because it has only been driven by lexus executives. a brand new one with exact configuration would be around 49600 plus fees. do you think these are fair prices? i am debating whether to get the slightly used or a brand new one. the difference is 8000 miles and 3600 bucks. thanks in advance......

Does the GS3 really sticker below 40k??? That seems really cheap, almost in IS territory. BTW, is E-shift an option, or does it come standard?

Sticker on a GS3 SportsDeisgn is $43,230, while it can be had for under $39K in SoCal.

Sticker on a base GS3 (no options) is $39.2K

panther, i work in this filed, to be considered a good deal, a demo would have to be ~9-10% below fair market value. in this case, if you could get the deal donw to ~$44500, get the demo one...otherwise get the new one for ~$49500+fees..

98% of the gs300 came to US with msrp of ~$43000 with premium pkg...if you want anything priced less than that, you would need to special order... not worth it, imho...

Now that a new Turbo kit is out, tell him to go for the 300!
