I think I need to replace my cig. lighter where i plug my radar in. Ever since I spilled some OJ in there (cleaned out with paper towels etc) my passport 7500 started blasting the LASER alert...when there is clearly no laser around (like in my garage!). Sometimes it seems like its tied to me turning, or using blinker, or hitting bumps, or just complete randomness... So im hoping I can just replace the DC power plug under my stereo and hope that helps... Anyone know where I can get one?
Another question might be...Cant these be wired into the garage door buttons and use that for a power source? Looked like phone wire plug / 2 pair - probably pretty easy to do...That would rule out the dc plug being the problem.
Passport support said they can tune the device for like $70 or something and sometimes false positives on laser is from interference from something (he mentioned even new spark plugs!?)...I dont think thats it though, as not much has changed - and it started shortly after the OJ incident I Think...
Few things.
1). check your cig lighter with a meter first before replacing anything to see if its bad.
2). Plug your passport into the cig lighter in the console and see if it does the same thing. if it does, it's the passport
Well, ive put it in there and had the same issue...However, in our van, its not an issue...so I think its something electrical/interference of some kind.
You know anything about wiring to light or garage door opener?
I would stay away from messing with any wiring before you find the #1 problem. if your having the same problem in both lighters, I doubt it's the lighters. You could have some sort of short or something that can throw the radar off. I don't know anything about radars, but thats my $.02 good luck
Thast what im thinking...but Im thinking the short or whatever is being caused by my jacked up cig lighter...that had OJ in it! it looks rusted at the bottom etc. Anyone know how to replace that?
Only other thing I would try is pulling the ashtray out. All you have to do is open it and pull from both sides. then I don't know what kind of connectors it has, but try to un-plug one and see what it does?
Plus that way you should be able to get the lighter out that way. Only other thing to try?
