as long as you disconnect either the negative or the positive terminal, nothing will work thats attached to the battery..you need both connected in order to have current. and as far as which one to remove...its smart to remove the negative instead of the positive, because the negative is attached to the chasis of the car, and if you remove the positive and it hits any metal on the car it wont be a pretty scene.
well lexus replaced my battery under warranty today. seemed like a normal thing they encounter every day with the expression on his face (like all you said). once the systems done the batteries getting replaced with a yellow top for sure =)
