So my 5 year old bettery hit its breaking point I think when I replaced the starter in my 400 (anyone else have this happen?). My keyless entry wasn't working right for a couple days, and the car started slow this morning. Took it to AutoZone for a test, they checked twice to be sure, and confirmed its imminent death.
It's a Lexus battery with a 7 year warranty. Came with the car when I bought it used. Will I have a problem getting a new battery under warranty tomorrow when I call the stealership?
If you have the receipt showing that you bought it from Lexus. Most likely they would give you a replacement. Since its an old battery, the water inside must have evaporated. If the battery is just a regular battery, not a maintainence free battery. Carefully open the battery caps and put in distilled water but don't overflow it. But I think you rather get a new battery instead. And if you still do get low cranking in the morning after getting a new battery some time ahead. You would have to look what is draining your battery.
I did a search, and it sounds like there's a proration thing...not quite sure if I understand it, though.
Be prepared to pay at least 75% of the replacement cost, which will likely be more than what a battery would cost from Autozone or Checker (depending on where you are). Pro-rating on batteries is pretty bad. I had one die at 25 months, and had to pay 50%, even though it was a 6 year battery. I complained to the company, and got them to give me part of it back. Lexus batteries are the same CCA and size as other batteries, they just charge more for them.
Oh, and that's only if you have a receipt. Battery warranties generally don't transfer with ownership of the vehicle, kind of like tires.
