Why no one is using upgraded torque converter?
This is what Ive noticed, most of CL member who has a 2jzgte or jzgte vvti swapped into their gs300 or gs400 does not swap out their torque converter. Is there a reason why?
Im about to start my 2jzgte vvti swap into my 1998 gs300 and Ive been doing some research for the torque converter and found very little information. Most people swap the torque converter in the gs400(v8). I figure since its apart and out of the car I might as well get this torque converter install before putting everything together. Does anyone have any recommendation on the stall speed or any reason to not get one at all?
I found a lot of information in the supra forum, but they are all 2jzgte and they mostly use Precision Industry 3200-4000 stall. My car and engine are a little different, so Im not sure to follow the same path or not. Figure, this is the best place for the correct advice with similar setup.
BTW, I will be running stock turbo sequential setup with possible #1 EBV mod. Of course all the goodies as DP, raise boost to about 18psi, intake, exhaust...just the basic BPU.

I currently have a TT setup and utilize a Precision industries TC. I have 2400 stall, I took this since it was just high enough to get the turbos spooling but not so high as to kill my gas mileage. If I got the stall at the numbers you just mentioned, I would be at almost full boost and breaking the rear end loose every time I got on the gas. It's already crazy as it is setup right now.
I would recommend their product as they have a great warranty and back their work. I have had my TC since 2004.

What is the factory 2jzgte vvti tranny stall at? I know the supra's(USDM 2jzgte) are around 1800?
When converted to the 2400 stall, what did you noticed different from driving to launching if applicable. Also, are the differences drastic? Was it worth the $800?

I'm not sure how much research you did considering a lot of us are actually running TC on our vvt-i and non vvt-i gte swaps. I am personally running a 3200 stall Precision Industries TC. I know that Jeff is running something like 3700 stall and burton was running running a 3400 stall on thier vvt-i swaps. I'm pretty sure their is no difference from running it on a vvt-i gte as opposed to a vvt-i gte. So if you find some threads on SF with the auto guys it will apply to you..I love my set up as I think its perfect for street. On the highway its perfect as I was right around 3k and it helped me get into boost perfectly with the twins so I was fully locked within 200 rpms and ripping from their. PI also has a great warranty where they will repair or replace a faulty unit for free within the 1st 24months of you buying it...They back their product up..
My 60fts went from 2.6-2.8's to 2.1-2.2's Great buy and really worth the money, especially for us turbo auto guys, its a must have...
ps- HI98gs is running a twin turbo gs400 v8. totally different animal from what the original poster is planning on doing..

Im thinking of getting 3200 from PI as well. I just want something streetable and something that will respond fast when I floor the pedal. I dont want to spin out either when I floor it, so something streetable.
So it seems like 3200 is streetable? Any other inputs? Thanks
