Default Some advice on 20"s

Hey guys, Im new to this board but not new to fixing up cars. But I've done a search in the site but havent came up with information that would help me. I recently picked up some 20's wheels. They are 20x8.5 +31 and 20x9.5 +31 off set.

I noticed most of the pics ive seen in the threads "non air-tucked" etcc..either the side wall of the tire is right at the lip of the rim or the tire is "stretched" over the rim.

What I'm looking to do with the car is lower the car, but not to the point of rim tucking. My question is, what do you guys recommend or opinion on the size of tires to run with. I was thinking of 225/30/20 front and 245/30/30 rear, would that be too small? or 245/30/20 for the front and 275/30/20 for the rear ? Any help would be appreciated thanks

chris

Welcome to CL! Tires depends on the look you are going for. Do you want the fat tire setup, stretch tires, or just regular need a good deal setup?

hey guys thanks for the warm welcome. I guess what I'm seeing on the boards..if I stretch the tires over the wheels, I can rim tuck, but If I get the tires right at the edge of the rim, it will be more flushed with the fender, right? Hmm...I guess I kinda wanted to see what other 20" GS owners were running on there cars ! thanks !

hey guys thanks, Do you think this will be okay, or is the tires too staggered:

20x8.5 +31 235/30/20
20x9.5 +31 275/30/20

thanks !

I'd go with a 235/35 in the front and the 275/30 in the back. You should be alright with those tire sizes and offsets. Depending on the drop you may need some minor fender mods but it may work without any rolling or shaving.

IMO stretched tires don't look good unless the car is slammed and you have very aggressive offsets that require the narrower tires to clear the fenders. Those offsets wouldn't look good with stretched tires.

^ I agree unless your gonna sit the fender on the wheels-there is no point in stretching... but eventually you will wanna go lower if you hang on here.

Default Some advise on 20's

Chris, here's my set-up: 19x9 +19 wrapped in 225/40/19 and 19x10 +20 255/35/19 and doesn't look stretched at all and I'm lowered. So, I say 225/30 and 255/30 should somewhat look like my set-up. I know it's not 20's but the tire sizes gives you a good idea of how it looks. Hope this helps and here are some pics to help you out a bit more.

Welcome. I was in your position as I could not slam my car since it was used for daily driving. I also attend functions through work in which I sometimes have to drive. It would not be good if I was asking people to get out so that I can make it over a speedbump I am moderately lowered on coilovers running 245/35/20's up front and 275/30/20's in rear. I will rub if I hit a large dip at speed, but rarely have any issues. I have not cut or modified my fenders at all. I might go 235's in front next go around to eliminate the rubbing over bumps all together. Overall I am happy with this set-up.
