Default Question about removing front seats

Well I picked up an interior today to replace the leather one I have in the Aristo.

Basically I'm swapping from the original fully black interior to the 99 onwards style with the grey piping.

The car didn't have heated seats but the new seats do have them but I assume the loom will still be all plug and play anyways.

My main question is do I have to disconnect the negative terminal on the car battery before removing the connections to the existing seats, or can I literally unbolt the seats and just pull all the connectors?

I can't find much info on here about that specific step.

From what I understand I assume at a later date that I can just buy the heated seat switches, connect them to the loom in the console and in theory they should work?

Thanks in advance!

As far as removing the seat, I don't believe that you have to disconnect the battery terminal. It's all plug and plug. For the heated seat you might have to do more than just purchasing the switch. I don't really know exactly what need to be done, but I can find out
from my technicians and post later..

That's good news on the battery, saves me a job thanks

I'd just heard somewhere there was a risk of the airbags going off while you fiddle with the connector so just didn't want to risk it.

Not got my car back yet though so haven't had chance to have a nosey!

I've also got the doorcards from a GS300 that had the memory seats - I'm going to see if it's the same connections as the doorcard without - I'm assuming there must be a harness missing maybe that connects to that area but we'll see in a few days time, looking forward to getting it all done!

OK failed at the first hurdle earlier - looking at the seats that are out of the car there are two bolts at each side in the angled section of the runners, but how do you get the plastic covers off to actually get at these bolts please?

Tried pulling them off but no joy and didn't want to force them off and break them!

if u dont disconnect d battery before removing d seatbelt, the computer will register it and the airbag warning light will come when u are done installing d new one.
there is a way to reset it but would nt u rather not go through thaat stress by just disconnect the battery when doing it?

Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure the battery is disconnected before I do anything, it's always safer that way anyway

So, as for these plastic covers, any idea how they come off please?

Is there a guide anywhere for removing the interior of these cars as I've not managed to find anything so far!

I've seen pics of where people have done it, but just wondered if there was an idiots guide of what to expect and any tips etc?

Default Plastic covers.....

Hey Aido,

Are you talking about the plastic covers that fit over the bolts that hold the seat in place? If so, just take a flat head screwdriver and pry upwards. They simply fit over the bolts, there are tabs on the sides of the covers that click in place or snap in place when you go to put them back. Hope that helps? LMK....

Hey Joe, thanks for that, I only had a really brief look but these looked to be square plastic covers wrapping the entire runner? Or is that what you also mean?

It was probably two inches square? I only checked towards the front of the seat as I've got a full set of wheels on the back seat so couldn't get to check those

Just had a look at this:

http://www.*******.com/parts/p_J_199...VZ_7101.3.html

And it's the seat track cover - does that just pry off too with the screwdriver? Sorry for the amateur question but I assume push the screwdriver in from the front and just pry upwards?

Is Toyo DIY banned here as just noticed the URL is masked?!

Yes those are it, the ones for the bolts that holds the seat in place. They are about 2 inch squares, just pry them up with a flat head and you should be fine. Again there are little tabs on the inside that snaps in place when you re-install them.

Just wanted to say thanks again, the interior is all changed over now and I also retrofitted the heated seat switches and they are also working perfectly too - just need to cut the holes in the console and it'll be totally stock then

It was very nice of Toyota to leave the connector hanging there in the cars without the heated seats option

yeah its more cost efficient for them....u tried trolling the classifieds for a console with the heat switches already in them instead of cutting yours? i just sold one in the classifieds like a month ago for like 25 bucks

I thought about that but it's harder to get them over here in the UK, I've already taken these from a GS300 that was written off, problem was the interior was the wood colour whereas I have the dark wood in the Aristo and it's much harder to get hold of those.

I've got the console prepped and masked and someone is going to do the holes for me tomorrow, they're an engineer and a bit of a perfectionist so it'll be exactly like stock
