Default Intermittent Air Conditioning Problem - 98GS400

The air conditioning on my 98 GS400 works about 90% of the time, but ocassionally when I turn it on it doesn't work at all. No fan...nothing. When I switch it off and then on again it works...although I have to sometimes do the on and off thing a few times in a row before it will work.

When it is working, again 90% of the time, it works great.

Any ideas what could be causing my intermittent problem?

I will check next time I am having the problem. The auto button lights up and functions when the air conditioning is working. I don't know if I have tried auto in the past during one of the times it wasn't working.

Thanks for the suggestions. If it was a fuse I believe the problem would not come and go. It would either work or it wouldn't work.

The relay may be something...any idea where it is and how to check it?

Thanks.

Defective switch/relay ,wiring harness issue to blower motor, dead spot on blower motor resulting in it not kicking on. If you have access to borrow someones a/c control unit test it out best way to see if you need to replace the control panel. Make sure no rats have made a nest in your a/c system and chewed some of the wiresto the blower motor. I see that all the time and they chew all kinds of things in the car other then that. Good luck!...

I'll check my wiring..I did have some rats in the engine bay the other day.

A/C has been working perfectly since my first post. Maybe a good jinx?

^^^ Three years later and my A/C is still working without any further problems. Not sure what the issue was, but it seems to have 'fixed' itself.
