the 400 has one advantage, if both cars are rolling in Drive, and floored, the 400 has a touch quicker downshift. however, if the 430 is locked in say 2nd gear and you hit the gas, it jumps immediately, and that's when the extra 15lbs of torque and bigger motor shine. I think someone who knows how to drive a 430 can give a 400 problems.

i have gs400, and i have driven gs430, and i own sc430 as well. i guess my opinion sounds quite a bit? trust me, very difference. the gs400 is a lot more responsive throttle wise, especially if you tap it light. so if you are used to 400, when you go to 430, you feel very slow, coz' with the same amount of pressure on the gas, the car doesn't go much at all.
however, the fact is 430 has more tq, and if you press harder, the power will suddenly jump in and pull you out hard. it's all about driving habits. once i am used to the 430, that car is completely under control and whoever think that car is not fast, think again.
but the problem is when i get back to my 400, with the same amount of pressure, everyone thinks i am an idiot jumping off red line all the time @_@
see what i mean?

GS400 over SC430 all day errrrday. the SC isn't faster nor does it handle better than a GS400. it's just for empty nesters going through midlife crisis'. and in that case i'd rather buy a corvette.

When you put the 400 in eshift mode whatever gear your in has instantanious response too.

You can do the same with the GS430..you just have to move your lever instead
15ftlbs isn't going to make a difference, especially at the crank.. It's the overall torque curve of the 4.3L that's probably going to be smoother. I've driven both and they both feel the same to me in terms of acceleration. However I'm willing to bet the throttle curve on the GS430 is different than the GS400. Most cars I've driven without throttle cable feels 'smoother' because there is no cable to transmit the vibration coming from the engine. The transmission and everything else is the same from 98-05.
