Unhappy GS430 STB from TOMS

ChuH, has Steve Ganz replied/determined why your STB didn't fit? Any others who bought the TOMS STB for the 430, any problems with fit?

I still will do front and rear braces, but do want to keep engine cover in place. (OK, call me a poser; but it could be neater under there; guess it's cheaper to mold a big piece of plastic than it is to design, in addition to what may be the finest mass-produced V8 on the planet, an attractive underhood landscape.)

Just came back from my off-island trip. Haven't receive any email from Steve yet. I sent the Tom's STB back to Steve about 2 weeks ago. He should received it by now. I will send him a email to see if he has. I will keep you and other GS430 owners posted on the outcome.

Red face

Doh!! Had forgotten that you were in Guam and that shipping was, as a result, a little more of a factor, time-wise.

Thanks!

Mooretorque:

Just received a email from Steve Ganz. The Tom's STB I had sent back is the same as the new shipment he recently received. He said that in order to use the Tom's STB on a GS300 he needed to use 3 spacers and also need to remove the engine cover. For now he is also saying it will not clear the engine cover on the GS430. He is crediting me for the STB and shipping cost. Now this is what I call no hassle customer service. I will always put Steve Ganz at the top of my list to purchase parts from.

Chu...

ps. Still looking for a STB that will fit a GS430 with engine cover on...

Default not gonna fit

the tom's front stb will definently not fit with the engine cover on, but once u take it of...it fits perfectly. it's a shame that it only works that way. as for now, i've taken off the engine cover and left the stb, but i haven't figured out a solution for when i show my car, since the core of the v8 isn't too pleasing to the eye. any ideas? besides that, the performance of the stb is great.

Yup, I agree that the core of the engine does not look too pleasing. I currently have the TRD STB (without engine cover on) and purchased the Tom's STB when Steve Ganz informed me that he test fitted on RacingAristo's GS430 and it fit with the engine cover on. Still do not know why if fitted on RacingAristo's GS430 without any problem.

Any other GS430 owner out there with the Tom's STB that fits with the engine cover on???

Default C-ONE STB will fit the GS430 with 2 spacers

hi
i have the C-ONE STB on my GS430, however, it wont fit with the engine cover on unless you put 2 reenforcement rings ( spacers) under. if you guys check out the newest LS430 GT from Tom's RAcing in japan, you will see that the LS430 HAS a silver Tom's STB which ATTACHED to the engine bay. there is almost no clearance on the engine bay either. i'd recomment the C-ONE STB or the TOM's with 2 spacers, then they will work great!

Kyle3481:

Never thought about using spacers. I thought using spacer would cause problems such as not enough thread on the bolt to hold the STB properly. Where did you get the spacers from? Or did you fabricated one?

you have to order the spacers from the dealer. You will have plenty of threads, I should know because I'm using 3 spacers on my GS300 with some threads left. The spacers are $18.19 each. Hopefully this info will help you out.

Wonder why Steve didn't tell me about it in the first place. Rather he had me send the Tom's STB back to him instead. Expensive shipping back and forth. I wonder if I can get the spacer for my TRD STB? Or even my original Tom's STB with necessary spacers. Now I need to contact Steve again.

with 2 spacers +the original spacer (there is 1 spacer already on each side of the strut ) so a total of 3 spacers are needed. with my C-ONE STB which is very similar to the TOM's STB, the STB will attach to the fire prove foam under the hood, but it is not a big deal!! good luck guys hope everything works out
