Default Gauge cluster.

So I took apart cluster, there's two white cold cathode tubes. I don't want to go LED route because it's unnecessary hard work and won't look stock. So my question is what voltage I need to look for 110V or 220V, where can I buy cold cathode stripes or tubes with orange color? Also do you guys know what happened to this http://lextech.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1 project? Did they finish it?

Cold cathode tubes around gauges.

i believe you could buy a set of CCFL halo rings and do it, though i doubt theyd be orange like you are looking for.

i dont know of anyone that has amber or orange CCFL strips/halos, but i know AAC makes these LED strips, which you could probably change out the LED's to match, and i would assume would be brighter than the stock CCFL strips:

I was also thinking may be to wrap around existing bulbs orange film but then it will be too dim I guess.

I just took apart my gauges two days ago for the same reason. Funny. So yeah, I'm pondering the same. I was thinking either two strings of carefully connected 360º LEDs on either side, or custom made cathode bulbs.

I want stark white light, so I'm trying to figure out where the green hue is coming from when the gauges are reassembled...

Anyway, I wonder if a neon sign store could make those little CCFL tubes?

the green i think comes from the black lens casing that goes over the gauges. It's probably actually just REALLY dark translucent green that looks black until lit from the back.

it seems like those ccfl's would be expensive, and idk but those LED strips from AAC, if you could get them to work they'd look really nice i think.

I knowyou said you don't want to go LED, but what about taking a plastic ring, cut bunch of grooves, stick SMT LED at each end?

Source: A.room

btw, most angel eyes are not a true ring but a C shape, this is a complete circle which fits well with our 16 GS.

Hm, that's might be good idea so 12V feed could be taken from inverter, where 12V line goes in?

Talking

So I'm finally finished with my cluster without even touching bulbs, they left stock. Now I got the idea how to change color, and I can change color to red, blue, green, yellow(right now), you name it without any LEDs or other crap.
I need your opinion how's yellow looks? Should I leave it yellow, or.....?

EDIT: pics were taking from iPhone, hence quality sucks a bit.

do it Blue, it'll look nice....but i guess since you changed your radio and interior lights to yellow so it has to match.

The only concern I'd have with AAC's strips is getting them the correct length. The LED/acrylic sounds interesting because you could coarsely sand the outside, cut to length, and heat & bend it.

I'm looking for bright white...I wonder if the dull white plastic in the background would affect it also...?

It sucks--I can't see any of these pics...at work they're blocked. I'll check back tonight.
