Question Goodbye woodgrain!

Alright, so I've decided it's the woodgrain I don't like about my interior. Just not my thing. So I'm covering it up with one of three things: light silver metallic, dark silver (graphite) metallic, or chrome. (Car is a 400, Alpine Silver ext., black int. like the link below)

To get an idea, here's a thread where a guy did "gunmetal" as he calls it, but it looks more light silver to me...

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...terior+Project

I'd like to swap in a silver SportDesign stereo/HVAC control setup once I figure out how...

Anyway, what do you guys think? Light silver, dark silver, or chrome?

Yup! Your thread's what refreshed my interest in doing this before it gets cold. Anyway, I didn't mean to step on your thread--I was going more for color opinions 'cause I just can't decide.

As far as the process, I'll:
Take everything out and sand lightly.
Then prime it lightly, dry, lightly sand.
A coat of paint, dry, lightly sand.
A coat of paint, dry, lightly sand.
A coat of paint, dry, lightly sand.
A coat of paint, dry, lightly sand.
A coat of satin clear coat, dry, lightly sand. (It seems high-gloss is out these days.)
A coat of satin clear coat, dry for a couple days. Install.

I've done this before on my first car, when spray paint sucked and I was inexperienced and impatient. Believe it or not, it was durable and looked great! Lots of compliments!! Plus, I can do it for $30 tops. I figure I can always hire a professional to paint over it.

If I chrome everything, I'll box up and ship out with a check. Much easier!

You have to remove the door panels to get the wood panels off.
You can unscrew them from the backside- I think it was an 8mm hex.

My buddy Charles did silver panels back in about 2002 on his GS430.
It was a silver car with black interior. It looked good but now it would
seem like I "had seen it done before" so I wouldn't personally chose that
color scheme.

I think the chrome would be a bit DUB looking, not really my thing.

Gunmetal would be okay, if not a little stock-ish looking because it
will mimic the look of the factory center stack/radio.

On a silver car, I would probably skin them in silver carbon fiber,
like the IS-F has.

I did a darkwood stain (actually a tinted clearcoat) on mine several
years ago. It looks like dark cherry in the sun but black in the shade.
I am still quite happy with it, and it's unique.

i though about the dark tint thing and i would really like to see pics if you have any but i was also going to paint other items like the above thread(gauge cluster and AC vents). I would never do the chrome (not my thing either) and the silver carbon fiber seems like an option but very costly, but would also like the prices if anybody has an estimate and diy write up, i have a silver with black gs and there is no gunmetal in the interior? i was kinda looking for a sporty theme, i am not completely sold on any one idea and really apreciate you ideas i like them except for the chrome number.

So i relize that my descision din't take very long but it is the most rational. I will do the black tint over the wood grain and leave it for a while and let it set in then if i don't like it THEN i will paint over it in silver. PS SoCal SC if you have pics i would be really interrested in checking them out. thanks

Wonder how silver or black wood would look in a tan interior... Probably not too great.

i voted "Graphite", but i have to admit that i'm not crazy about the idea.

i see a lot of that mod-style in Scion family. not my cup of tea.

i don't think the chrome would look to good, silver cf overlay would look killer though.

I've been debating wrapping my wood in black cf. i think that would make the interior look very sporty
