Default rear light failure warning light

So I slammed on my breaks hella hard, when some dumbass driver was holding up traffic. Then I notice my rear light failure warning light coming on. I checked all my lights, they're all working fine. What can possibly be the problem?

check to make sure a bulb isnt loose in it's base or anything stupid like that. even the slightest problem will throw that light.

Might also want to check the lights for your license plate. Right under your trunk key hole. Mine went out, and never noticed it.
