Default What happends if...

What happens if your driving down the freeway at, lets say 65mph, and you accidentally throw the car into 'PARK'? Has this ever happened to anyone?

I don't see how you could do that.

If you could, you would probably damage the transmission.

hmnnn... i always wondered that too. although mine was always what if shifted into reverse...
why don't u give it a try and let us know what happens...

These transmissions have a safety lockout. For example, you can't shift into 1st gear going 80mph or any too low of gear that will harm the engine at a corresponding speed. The computer locks out the shift. It SHOULD lockout reverse as well, because that's all activated via electrical solenoids. However, in park I'm not sure about that. If anything, it will lock up the tires or you will snap off the park gear pawl/pin in the trans and you will just continue flying down the road after hearing a loud snap/clunk.

thanks jeff. sounds good enough for me. your description i mean, not what may happen. lol.
