Default MPG Question...Does anyone else have this problem?

Well Ive been driving my GS for almost 3 weeks now and Im really concerned about gas. I live in NYC and seem to only get a whoppin 10-11MPG which is horrible since 89 gas is 4.55/gallon. Anyone have any suggestions/ideas to why this may be or any ways to improve my MPG as much as possible thanks

Er.. it's probably because you live in the city and most of your driving is stop and go . My GS430 gets 22mpg on my 70 miles a day commute and it's 70% highway.

x2... My drive is also about 70 miles a day, with 70-80% highway. 22-23 mpg avg here per tank.

Even around the city only, you should still be getting 16-18. Lighten up on that right foot!

Easily...

How aggressively do you drive? I've had a few guys in my car that have 300s, and notice my car doesn't hunt for gears nearly as much as theirs. That in itself should help quite a bit in hilly areas.

All in all the 300 wasn't renowned for it's fuel economy. Bottom-line, it's all in your driving style.

61k here... haven't done my 60k. It'll be done within the next few weeks.

That will have NOTHING to do with your mileage.

ok the rated mpg for gs300 is 18 city 24 freeway. gs400/430 18 city 23freeway. one mile difference. if i knew that b4 i would totally gotten a gs4. plus v8 weights about the same as I6, since it's a v shaped engine. the rpm is also lower than gs3. so not suprised they have the same gas mileage.

I never floored my GS300 before, I actually even let it just roll if theres noone behind me... Its at 98K miles you think its the timing belt or waterpump? Im changing my riced out exhaust (3inch inlet) from the previous owner to the Magnaflows 14829 . You think that can help a little?

Water pump and timing belt won't affect your mileage. If you haven't done a recent service on your car things that could adversely affect mileage would be:

O2 sensors: Even if they aren't throwing a code if they are old they won't function as well as fresh ones.

Sparkplugs: Try a set of Denso/NGK Iridium plugs, if you order them online should be around $60 shipped for a set.

Air Filter: Replace your stock air filter with a new one or at least take the filter out and firmly bang it on the ground to get rid of any loose dirt.

MAF sensor: Get some MAF sensor cleaning spray from your local auto parts store and carefully spray out the MAF to get rid of any dirt/oil buildup.

Tire Pressure: If your tires get low on pressure that can have a significant effect on your mpg.

The five things above should AT LEAST make the car run smoother if not gain you some mileage back.

This fact was crucial before I purchased my 400. The only way I would have gone with the 300 if I was going turbo, but I was having doubts about turbo'ing the 300, especially in Cali.
