Default So I'm thinking about downsizing to 18x9/10

So mainly because of gas prices im thinking about downsizing from 20x8.5 and 20x10 to maybe 18x9 and 18x10 or maybe 11 if I can make it happen... of course if I do this I will definatly have to stop bs'n and slam the GS... One thing you guys gotta keep in mind when giving your input is that im all about speed, looks can always come later cuz most of my friends have mustangs camaros etc. and I hate being the last one in line... I need to show everyone that my GS has ***** too!!! So I got to thinking about the pro's and con's about the downsize and I can only think of pro's...

1. I will get better gas mileage
2. I can compensate for the loss of size by getting a deeper lip
3. My car will be much quicker off the line

If any of you guys have pics, I ask that you please post them with the specs of the wheels and make sure you specify the offsets because that it what's most important to me...

For the cost of the new wheels, how many tanks of gas could you buy?

Something else you're not thinking about is the increased weight of rubber. Larger wheels might weigh more, but carry less tire weight. As wheel size decreases, you typically run a taller sidewall thus off-setting any weight lost.

I would be curious to see a before and after comparison of reduced unsprung weight.

hmmm you make a very valid point... but I have calulated that the overall height of my 20's are taller than my stock 17's so another goal is to come back down to the stock specs... another thing is that I have read in a magazine article I forget which one but it was about the new BMW M5 and they went up to a 21" wheel and they said on the dyno it equated to a loss of like 20 hp at the wheels... so I know im losing power with these 20's

another thing is that if I were to go down to 18's I would sell my 20's and use that money to get the 18's

My old car with 18x8.5 18x9.5. Anything inbetween +30 to +40 will look like what is on the pics. No rubbing or fender mods. Normal sized tires. The selection of 18 inch used jdm wheels is much greater than 19's. Hope that helps.

I went with 18's for the weight savings too. Stock = 26 lbs, BBS = 18.2 lbs. Anyway you cut it that's still a significant weight reduction regardless of tire choice. I think it looks more like a 19" wheel with the narrow 7, 10, or 11 spoke designs like these.

Sorry for the 4x4esque picture, but my Espelir springs are being shipped tomorrow I think

You will definately save some gas by downgrading to 18s. I think I saved about 40-50 miles a tank and I do about 70% highway and 30% city at the time.

Momo Status 20X8.5 +35 all around

Blitz Technosppeds 18X9 +38 and 18X10 +45

Get a scooter if you're concerned about gas mileage! j/p.

I got 18x8 and 18x9 Work Equip DDC's (+36mm offset for both). I love 'em to death and I mainly got them because of the less than stellar roads in the metro Detroit area.

Well the reason I want to go 18 is cuz if you look at the price of tires for 19's they are usually higher in price... for instance I checked out the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on Tire Rack and the prices are as follows:

275/35/18- $248.00
275/35/19- $308.00
275/35/20- $328.00

So if you look you will see that the price jump from 18" to 19" is $60, when the the price jump from 19" to 20" is only $20 bucks... so if I had 19's I would be super pissed that the same tire is in a 20" setup would only be $20 more... So you can see why I would like to go 18...

why not go to 17s ? or 16s then ... IMO the 18s are pretty small looking too .. the stocks with smaller tires and smalled will look good too

I got 20x8.5 and 20x10 TSW Kyalami.... It's about a 3" lip in the back and like a 2" lip in the front... got Nitto NT555 all the way around with 245/35/20 up front and 285/30/20 in the back... all tires are about 2 months old....

So i'm describing all of this cuz I might be looking to do trade plus cash for 18x9 and 18x10/11 preferably 11" wide for the back... if anyone has anything post up some convincing pics that might make me finalize my decision...
