Default SEARS damaged my Veilside Kit

Back on April 24 I sent my wife in for an alignment at sears and as expected needed four new tires because of inner wear. I asked for an alignment to be done to eliminate future tire wear problems. As they were loading it on the rack two hooks caught on the front bumper and tore it as my wife was on the phone with me. She handed the phone over to the asst manager and he told me to get three estimates and they'll "take care of it". Said that a little bondo and it will be as good as new. I had him write it on the invoice and he and his manager signed it.

After reading consumeraffairs.com and seeing all the complaints it has me a little concerned as the shop that I went to said to replace instead of repair.

We'll see tomorrow...any similar experiences?

Frankly, I'd be surprised if I took my car to Sears and it DIDN'T get damaged.

I'm paranoid enough that I take the DieHard out of it and take the battery
to them instead of having them change it or check it in the car.

There are only four shops I trust with my cars: Dynamic Auto Services,
TM Engineering, Shoreline Motoring, and Wheel Warehouse. Even with
any of these guys I remind them about the low bumper clearance...

No offense to Sears technicians, but if they were any good they'd be
working for a dealership (like Lexus or Porsche) or a high-end tuner shop
(like Brabus, Renntech, GMG, etc.)

Sorry to hear about that!

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for posting what happened to your car. Sears isn't one of the places I've taken my car in the last 5 years, but I know I won't be going there for anything other than tools now!

There was another member that had a similar experience with Sears Auto Center. According to your post, it looks like Sears is willing to repair the damage. Lowered cars and cars with ground effects are succeptable to damage. It is a good idea to communicate with the technicians working on your vehicle to be weary of such. If all else fails with the fix, there is alway the Kraftsman bodykit they can slap on I kid, I kid..

dont bag on SAC in general.. bag on the poorly trained Tech that damaged the car.

I'm a Sears Technician and have personally aligned several low slung hi performance cars from 05 M3's to 98 Supras to body kit scraping s14s. It CAN be done, and without damage if they take the time and have the common sense to do it right.

BTW, I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC if you are in the area and need something done right. I had my own shop for over 10 yrs before closing it in 2006. I'm at Sears because of the excellent benefits pkg (for my family) and the ability to clock out and go home.. no need to worry because I own the place and you have to wonder if it will be there in one piece in the morning. We are also the busiest garage in this town, even more so than the dealerships.

Rant off*..

Sorry to hear about your car. If you get no relief from the local store mgr, PM me.

I have had the pleasure/curse of being the General Manager of two different chain repair/service centers that happen to have really bad reputations. This includes multiple posts about them (not my locations ) here on CL. While I was in charge we had no issues.

Quality of the staff was always top of my list of "things to fix" when starting at these shops. We worked on lots of nice and high end rides that many would never think they would see at these shops because my staff did good work and word spreads fast with car guys. I got completely out of this line of work for the same reason as Epik - Hours and benefits.

Anyways - Best of luck with Sears. These posts always make me cringe. These situations suck but they can happen anywhere including Lexus dealers.

Taking it to Sears is like getting wheels mounted at Costco....they definitely gonna scratch the rims.

Im sure Sears will ask you to get a few more quotes to repair (vs. replace).

Good luck, let us know how things turn out.
